Hayton is on the final roster, as per Chayka.

Uhh...ok. Admittedly I haven't watched any of the pre-season games but from everything I've read he's looked pretty ho hum, definitely never got a force their hand vibe.

As Hayton hate'n continues, I'm reminded of a post on IG, I believe from TSN, about draft prospects and their gaming habits; specifically teams looking at it as a negative. I can't find the post (it was about a month ago), if anyone remembers it or knows it, please post for context. Linked is probably something similar. When it was posted on IG, I immediately thought, "could this be a Zadina issue and not attitude?".

There appears to be a message in Chayka's message, that made me remember the above.

They are basically hoping he shows something in his games that allows them to trade Strome, even if Hayton ultimately ends up back in SSM.

Something in Chayka’s most recent quote about Hayton made you suspect Zadina could’ve addicted to Fortnite? Also, doesn’t that link say OHL? Zadina was in the Q? I think I’m misunderstanding you?

The link is talking about a serious addiction, not casual consumption. It's like saying playing cards on the team plane means you're a degenerate gambler that would bet his toaster on black if they allowed such things. Or that drinking makes you prone to getting arrested at a Scottsdale bar... It's just the old boys club being scared of the kids playing vidya games.

Hayton making the roster might have more to do with the concussion than the man crush. It's not unusual for injured prospects to sit through NHL camp, rehab in the better facilities, earn some insurance funded NHL salary and get re-assigned once healthy. It's possible that Chayka is just putting a spin on this, givings Hayton an extra boost of confidence.

Or maybe his strong performances in preseason were good enough to earn a look. He is the only draft pick to play in all situations and kick ass on the pk. (besides Dahlin) Plus he won 60% of his faceoffs in his two preseason games.

Full disclosure, I’m a Soo fan, so some say I am biased. I’m happy for the kid, but wish he was back with the Greyhounds wearing the C!

His platitudes and obvious love for Hayton are starting to get concerning though. The man who sold the world on being objective might not be so objective after all.
We are very lucky that Keller and Chychrun exhibited the personality traits that Chayka values so highly. It's a shame that Chayka hasn't been able to project his own personality onto more offensively gifted prospects. Which kid coming out of the next draft is super serious but also a really great goal-scorer?

Couturier was drafted 8th in 2011 and made the team out of camp. 76 games, 27 points. Spent years as the 3c honing a strong defensive game, filling in as 2c when injuries occurred, and appears to have broken out offensively.

Bergeron was drafted in 2003 (45OA), making the team out of camp, and posted 39 that year. In 2004 he was in the A and 2005 came back to put 73 in 81. Is a top defensive center in the game.

Monahan was drafted in 2013 (6OA), made the team out of camp, and had 34. The following 4 years were 62, 63, 58, and 64.

This could be the line in 5 years for Hayton..

Hayton was drafted in 2018 (5OA), made the team out of camp, got 31 points. The following 4 years he had 56, 59, 62, 59. Hes a top defensive center in the game.

I'm more inclined to agree with this theory:

Than this one:

Nothing I've seen from Hayton screams he's ready right now even to grow into a role. Both Monahan and Couturier were also known for their refined 2 way game at a young age but brought more size to the table. Hayton is also younger than those guys having only 2 junior seasons under his belt. Just eye test wise not once in the various times I've seen him this offseason did he seem like he should be out there killing penalties and doing the little things for the mediocre Coyotes instead of refining his offensive game in juniors.

I don't like messing with the Bergeron stuff because I consider him a massive outlier, a near hall of fame level talent plucked in the 2nd in the greatest draft class in modern history.

Didn't say it would happen, also didn't predict point totals resembaling Bergeron because Bergeron was part of such an incredibly deep draft. He was only there to show that players do make it out of their draft year and succeed.

Hayton (by my understanding) is a gym rat who eats, sleeps, *****, and breathes the game. Is he ready? Probably not but his time on our squad is likely not bad for his development if hes physically capable. IMO he will be a more advanced Dvorak or Stepan. I'm ok with that outcome from my 5th overall.

Edit: I should state that I like Hayton a lot. Not as much as JC but hes a great prospect. I'd have had a hard time passing on Zadina but I like him enough that taking him 5th didn't upset me.

I’ll take that!!! It’s EXTREMELY optimistic but I’ll take it. Haha.

Couturier’s draft year:
68gp 107pts - 1.57ppg

Bergeron’s draft year:
81gp 88pts - 1.09ppg

Monahan’s draft year:
58gp 78pts - 1.34ppg

Hayton’s draft year:
87gp 81pts - 0.93ppg

Hayton:
I don’t think this is all GM here.
The coaching staff has to be onboard too.
There is something there commoners just can’t grasp.

We got injuries right now and some time in the show will be good for him.
