What is the adversity? They went into the series as the favorite, and are leading the series with a chance to close tonight.
In the year 2022 and people still don’t understand what betting odds actually mean. More of the money was in Toronto so they had worse better odds. They are in the business of making money make the Leafs big dogs and get flooded with bets from Leaf fans….not a great business decision now is it?

Merely existing for these guys is adversity. Carrying the weight of two decades of failure and 50 years of futility.

Most of the players in this series grew up dreaming of winning a Stanley Cup ….. as a Maple Leaf

Seriously? Ignoring that no one outside of Leaf fans (and even Leaf fans tbh..) had them with any chance at all in this series, they are under BY FAR the most pressure of any team. Carrying the burden of their first round exits, the media waiting to pounce, fans of other teams ready to meme the shit out of them, crazy Leaf fans ready to send them threats. Weight of doing what hasn't been done since 2004 against the B2B champs.

No Leaf fan thought they were the favorites in this series.

IDGAF about gambling.

Toronto came in as a higher seed with home ice. They're the favorite. What is the adversity?

If they themselves are the "adversity" then it's entirely on them.

If the leafs break tampas 15-0 streak (after a loss) tonight they’re the real deal. I think Tampa wins it and goes 16-0. Vasi turns into a freak after a loss.

When you are against the back to back champs, you aren't the favourite no matter wehat.

You can have home ice, you can have the higher seed, you can have the better gambling odds.\

If you are against the back to back champions you are not the favourite

Give me game 7 let's go!

On the plus side Sportsnet and TSN have made it their companies mission to help every person understand how betting works.

They went into the series with a slightly better regular season record, but I'm not sure about 'favourite'.

Playing the defending champ on their turf against a goalie who hasn't lost two in a row since 2019. Leafs haven't even won a game 6, let alone a series, since 2018, and have lost their last 8 chances to close. Sounds like a bit of adversity.

Besides, it was a riff on the post above mine, and at least partly tongue-in-cheek.

This series just shows how much of a brutal bloodbath the Atlantic is. Imagine if you stuck Tampa or Toronto in a division like the Pacific and they got a team like LA or Edmonton in the first round.

The winner of this series is definitely going to look like a juggernaut.

Would be more exciting for Atlantic if Coyotes relocating to north of Montreal in future

Tampa wins here and loses Saturday I think. Kind of feel both games will be tight too...not feeling a blowout in either

I would definitely like to see the Nordiques come back. I don’t think the NHL will ever give up on dragging hockey into the desert though; this is Bettman’s passion project at this point.

If this goes to 7 can the Leaf fans fill out the arena or are too many people suffering from PTSD?
Maybe some board members will have PTSD, but most people aren't affected by the game in their day to day lives. The excitement of a win or the disappointment of a loss is gone the next day.

Leafs fans surely are agitated.

For the sake of their mental health, Leafs need to win. These people need it.
I am not agitated at all.

You'd be surprised, there's a lot of people who take hockey really seriously.
