Strome leading our team for the 2nd game in a row. Not sure if the analytics are lying or if he's actually been playing well.

Brett Howden: how do you play ice hockey for a living and are that bad at it?

Remember that terrible team last year earning loser points by pulling out wins or OT losses that they didn't deserve? This team is worse.

Lineup prediction for Sunday:

Smith - Zibanejad - Kreider
Panarin - Howden - Buchnevich
Haley - Strome - Kakko
Lemieux - Fast

Staal - Trouba
Staal - Skjei
Hajek - Fox

You forgot Gerardi and Barry Beck. Present day Barry Beck.

I'm not concerned about tonight outside of the pp which should be our biggest weapon, I'm not sure what to do about it really, seems our biggest problem is that our 2 best shooters are right handed and looking for the same ice. Washington is a good hockey team, and until the Smith penalty I thought we were still in the game.

Call up Chytil. Flank him with Kreider and Buch who have built in chemistry. Slide Kakko up to Panarin and Zibanejad’s line.

Howden doesn’t have the skill or the smarts at this current juncture to do anything but torpedo the second line.
Panarin-Mika-Kakko
Kreider-Andersson-Buchnevich
Lemieux-Strome-Fast
McKegg-Howden-Smith

Those lines might be tolerable

The current ones are not

3 games now we struggle to score 2 goals per game, i think that's what we can expect going forward

2-1 in games where the big 3 come up big.
0-0 in games where other skaters do something.

Please do something, other skaters

Lundqvist was terrific and stopped a penalty shot, 2 breakaways and tons of other grade A chances and this team still can’t win.

Maloney’s report in the third from Ruff that the chances were about even and he thought the team was doing well defending well in their own zone. If he thinks they’re doing well, what does that say? They look like Swiss cheese in the D zone. Zero structure, nobody in from covered, no passing lanes taken away. It’s torture on Hank and Georgiev because whenever someone has the puck in the circle they have multiple cross seam options available, how the goalie supposed to play that?

Then you make the save and nobody is picking up the player in front or clearing the rebound or in Staal’s case they’re kicking the puck in the net. Defending well? How can Ruff seriously say that? We’ve seen blue lines with worse personnel defend better. This is a system issue. It’s absolutely ridiculous.

I want to see Lias given a chance at 2c also but Quinn seems to have no desire. I think there’s a better chance of him getting scratched than Quinn using him as 2c and it’s baffling why Quinn feels that way. Lias has looked good AND Howden and Strome have both crashed and burned in that role. Might as well give Lias a shot.

That was absolutely horrific to hear. If they truly believe this game was even, we have no hope.

Kakko needs to work on his skating. Badly. He’s not going anywhere in this league otherwise.
Skating looks slow due to indecisiveness at times. At the end he was better and saw him smartly peel away from and get distance from a defender. I thought: he's fast enough.

We're not winning jack **** aside from lotteries with Quinn in charge.

Our roster is crap beyond the top line and the top pair. We need a few more good drafts and a few more years to develop our coming picks.

Could have bought out Marc Staal, kept a very good looking Shattenkirk and motored along. Trade Vladislav for a 5th and Ebert instead of a 4th and Ebert. The defense would look stellar right now and Shattenkirk has trade value heading into his final year/TDL next year. Instead, we Marc Staal 19 minutes a night. Fireable offense.

On one hand, we looked better and more dangerous 5 on 5. Each line had some good shifts and solid chances.

On the other hand, if Hank was even mediocre and Orlov had any accuracy on his shot, they could have scored 10.
