it’s not all on Cronin. He doesn’t make Leo soft on the puck or cause him to the turn over the puck. As a young guy trying to establish himself in the league, the coach should honestly be the last thing on his mind. Yeah I think people don't even realize how bad the Eakins era was. They were entertaining maybe 10% of the time. Maybe people don't remember that stretch of 10-15 games under Eakins where the team would be behind 4-0 or 5-0 in the first period almost every time.

And routinely giving up 40 shots and getting outshot like 40-20.

This is a game where players needed to step up for Cutter and Gibson. The only guys who did that were McT, Strome and Vatrano. Maybe Fabbri too. Gudas didn't even stick up for himself really.
