And I didn't mean playing the puck with his hand, which he didn't do. I think the rule is if two guys from the same team get kicked off the faceoff circle it's a penalty. I only know that because I saw it once years ago. I think this is the second time I've seen that.

A ranger, let alone a 4th line center, won a faceoff, and that clearly just doesnt happen without shenanigans

Yeah, I think usually players are super conservative when they're the second guy into the circle. Haven't gotten to see a replay yet to know if McKegg actually did anything to merit the faceoff violation though.

I'd like a system where an important turnover-causing hit or goalie screen has more weight than a casual secondary pass in terms of assists.

That’s actually a good idea, particularly when it comes to goalie screens. Unfortunately, that kind of stuff would be hard to measure objectively.
