At this point I think this whole episode exists on the internet and only the internet. I seriously doubt Georgiev has given it a second thought in the past calendar.

Matter of fact "nobody likes Georgiev" was birthed on the internet and never existed at all. "But he's weird!" He's Russian and he's a goaltender. It would be weird if he wasn't weird.

You think it’s a conspiracy for there to be bad blood between Georgiev and ADA? Lol. Whatever you say

In the grand scheme of things, the Rangers playoff spot is all but locked up, so perhaps Gallant is “giving the boys what they want” in ADA Georgiev II.

Truthfully i dont really care where the Rangers are slotted in national rankings, because it means nothing in the real world. The smugness of the analytics community on the Athletic is what bothers me. The Rangers entry in the power rankings is exhibit A; incorrect information, calling out NYR fans for defending the team and of course calling us a paper tiger the day after we beat his beloved leafs handily. hes a douche
He also has us 8th when we're like 35th/32 in expected goals.

There have been a lot of smug analytics people. Travis Yost comes to mind and guilty as charged in my day. I never got that from Dom.

I just think that to an extent, people don't want to hear the truth that this team wins because of its goaltender. It's the same conversation we've been having for like 11 years.

It's fine if you enjoy it. I've said they're a fun team. But I'm in this to win the Stanley Cup. The Stanley Cup has been largely annexed and sequestered off by teams who carry play and rely very little on goaltending. [And yes, Vasilevskiy is excellent but he's faced the fewest chances in the league during their two Cup years with the grand canyon between him and the next lightest-worked goalie]

The dogmatic worship of metrics above all else has jettisoned a few very good and knowledgeable posters from our forum as well.

No, I didn't say that at all.

I think it's a conspiracy theory that everyone on the Rangers dislikes Georgiev.

I don't even think they disliked DeAngelo. I think two teammates getting hot at each other is non-issue if it's anyone but DeAngelo.

It was an issue for DeAngelo because of well-documented disciplne problems.

At most, the Georgiev thing was the last straw on a parting of ways that was inevitable.

I think they gotta get better at limiting shots. I feel like "whatever" about their own expected goals. They clearly have talent, they can clearly score goals, that's one I'd consider an oddity of their personnel more than a telling analytic.

But if they want to win a cup they're going to need to learn at some point how to really clamp down and deny other teams shots, especially good possession teams. Whether it's doing a better job preventing teams from setting up or better job recovering and breaking out with the puck, I dunno, but I don't think they'll win it all getting caved on shots all the time and relying on their goaltender

I was a big supporter of the analytics movement when I was younger, but I think its tough to use them as anymore than a useful tool in a game like hockey that's so free flowing. Too often are the stats used as an "I'm smarter than you" trump card. The Rangers rebuild gave me a greater appreciation for competing and winning hockey games, so I don't really care how they look doing it. It all gets thrown out the window in a 7 game series anyway.

Someone tune up Tony early, make him look over his shoulder all night.

This. The Canes have defenseman will turn the puck over if you pressure them on the forecheck, we know first hand with Skjei/Tony/Smith. I think the 4th line can have an impact on tonight game.

They are going to get outshot by a lot, but the Canes give up scoring chances and take penalties, which will play into the Rangers hand.

Analytics folks when you disagree on a basic game performance

Steroids & pitch counts ruined baseball.

Pitch counts are a part of analytics. Why 47 relievers in a game became posh.

Roids, not so much. Before them, greenies we're the enhancer.

I'll also add that the baseball writer has had a major part of killing the game.

I agree and disagree.

I agree in the sense that we have talent and obvious finishing ability and you can absolutely outskill your analytics. The Caps did this in 2018.

However, last I checked we actually have more of an issue with generation than prevention. As the games get tight and the goals get cheap, I worry that we don't shoot the puck or even have it enough to get the bounces.

To go back to the Washington example, it was their defense that sucked (and f*** John Carlson) but they can shoot. Ovechkin by himself attempts like 5-6 shots a game. One of them is going in eventually.
