I think he's had to alter his system given the obvious talent shortcomings of this roster. We have zero team speed.

Basically, this is the 15-16 team except Nemeth isn't on the top pair playing like 22 minutes at even strength.

If I were coaching a game like this I would tell the team “I don’t care if we don’t get another shot on goal as long as we step up on every player who enters our zone. No stick checking.”.

There are three types of people:

1. People who think Kakko and Laf need top linemates.

2. People who realize Kakko and Laf have had top linemates, but think they just need more time there.

3. People who are tired of the excuses.

Amazing how few excuses that third group would hear if they weren't also the type who needed to keep belting their opinion about the same thing every day to the same people, many of whom they know to be in the first two groups..

Canes' forecheck is off the charts though, and we're just not that great at moving the puck and we don't build up speed until the second pass.

We don't even get a second pass, the second pass is just a dump into a corner 90% of the time because all our forwards are tied up in the neutral zone and can do nothing when they get the puck other than send it down the ice. The second and third players need to have speed when they get the puck, but nobody seems to know where to go and the D don't really seem to know where and when to play the puck so it doesn't happen.

Against weak teams the Rangers can wing it and find space but when that is denied they look horrible (Calgary x2, tonight vs the Canes).
