Prospect Info: #40OA - Hurricanes select RHD Scott Morrow

Making waves

I admit I don't really know how they're doing the "full comps" but if you actually look at the list of names for "full comps" it is very clear that Makar and Morrow are on vastly different trajectories

Seriously though, I'm glad Morrow is doing so well. We might get an Adam Fox out of this at the end of the day anyway.

Cool cool. Let's check on Scott Morrow's stats relative to the team.

Hockeydb.com.

No, not that Scott Morrow.

No, not that Scott Morrow either.

This Scott Morrow.

Careful here, Scotty is from CT and may hate the WhalerCanes and force his way to the Bruins...

Anyone else feel like the comparison to Makar is silly, but making projections based on Makar's career entirely comical?

They're both righties that went to UMass. That's as far as this comparison goes for me only 14 games into his freshman year.

If Morrow turns into the next Justin Faulk, I’ll be elated. Getting a top 4 offensive RD in the 2nd round is awesome.

If he turns into a Makar, well then, I’ll be happy too.

It really seems like this could line up perfectly with a TDA bridge deal. Give Bear a longer term deal that may be a slight overpay early but will hopefully turn into Pesce/Slavin type value deal later in the contract. Bridge TDA 2-3 years at a manageable cap hit and then if he keeps producing like he has this year he can walk as a UFA, get a huge contract and we bring Morrow in. Then our right side is pretty much set for the foreseeable future. If Bear were to develop within our system further too (which I think is very possible) we may not need to keep Pesce past his current deal, freeing up more cap for guys like Necas, Jarvis, Aho, Slavin, etc. who will need new contracts down the line.

If I'm reading this correctly, the chart is saying Makar made a massive jump in star potential from D+2 to D+3 years.

And Morrow is tracking to Makar's same D+1 rating, before Makar made a massive jump.

It's like saying Brock McGinn's comparable is Brad Marchand because he's tracking to the first 5 years of Marchand's career.

**** and we got rid of him prior to licking someone? GMBC FAILURE

Again, I've always looked at Aho and Slavin as the two true must-keeps in the organization, as far as UFAs are concerned. Trading or letting go of other pieces like Turbo/Pesce/Skjei and keeping the RFA crop in tact (KK, Necas, Bear, Jarvis, +++) allows you to fill the roster with the kind of premium depth adds that teams in our status don't normally have the cap space for. If someone like Scott Morrow pans out, even better.

Not sure if anyone has compared him to Cale Makar yet but I think he has the ability be that good if not better.

He also has the potential to be another Adam Fox but not in the good way.
Why do you think he has the potential to be another Adam fox?
