If you don't want to beat the best to win in a best on best tournament on roster and injury technicalities it comes off as scared. Every canadian should be clamoring for the NHL to let Quinn play but most are hiding behind the mythical rule book for this 1st time event. If something kept McDavid out of the tournament and an opportunity arose to get him in you don't think the same posters here saying Quinn shouldn't play would have a different stance?
Please point out where I've said that I don't want best on best. I also have a Quinn Hughes Canucks jersey, consider him one of my favourite players in the league, and was disappointed he wasn't playing. I would find it fun to see Hughes play - I just find the 'we'll just make up an injury so he can play' angle by some here to be pretty dumb.

Wild guess here, but I'm sure if McDavid was replaced at the start of the tournament due to injury, and then Sam Bennett got hurt last night and was set to be replaced by Seth Jarvis for the final game only to then have McDavid called in as an emergency replacement in case someone else got hurt, all you lot would be throwing a fit. There were people here complaining about Harley being called in to play on Saturday and that was a legitimate reason, not Canada just 'pretending' that someone was hurt like some of you are hoping for.

Id call those US fans out the same, this isn't an iihf event it's a perfectly styled NHL All Star event just get the best player available and entertain the fans it's a simple formula now because it's working so well. You didn't say those things so I apologize for jumping on you.

I don't understand why these roster rules are so strict. What possible abuse of these rules am I not seeing that could happen without them in place?

Clearly they didn't want some poor NHL hockey player having to give up his beach vacation with his family to sit in the press box for two weeks and never see the ice surface.

Or, maybe getting hurt in practice.

I'd say it's the PA is behind it but maybe the owners want to contain the potential for injury as well by having fewer players on the roster.

Aren’t we being treated exactly like Canada? We had 7 defensemen, 1 goes down (McAvoy), 1 gets called up (Hughes) but can’t play unless another defenseman gets hurt. Canada had 7 defensemen, 1 goes down (Theodore), 1 gets called up (Harley) and couldn’t play unless another defenseman went down (Makar), then he could play.

I don’t understand what the complaint is. What am I missing here?

Not sure how well targeting the Tkachuk brothers will go for Canada...
I guess we shall see Thursday. There's also Matthews and Quinn. If we can reaggravate any of those injuries to shorten the bench it will be a significant advantage. Quinn is likely target #1 which isn't great as a Canucks fan but eh not like we're making a run at the cup this year.

I would complain about Harley being American than anything else...lol.

The bigger advantage for Canada is that McDavid and Crosby won't have to be worried about getting tossed around by McAvoy again.

Canada was down to 5 D at one point

It's more of a complaint aimed at the silly process.

The obvious difference is that we wanted a replacement for our best defenceman, whereas your replacement is your best defenceman.

Even so, you're not supposed to be able to play him until you are down to 5 defencemen for some reason.

Which begs the question of which defenceman will have to take a fall/get hurt/get sick for Hughes to be put into the lineup.

The fact that you can't replace your 6th defenceman with your (new) 7th defenceman unless he can't play at all is silly.
