I'd be surprised if Lou actually managed to convince Tysplakov to take $3M until retirement. More likely, it's a 2-3 year bridge deal. Probably using the Marchenko deal as a higher-end framework. Less prolific scoring, less track record in NHL...~$500k less dollars in a rising cap probably settles in somewhere reasonable.

But Lou does weird contracts, so you never know... :dunno:

Good move by the Isles. He's a useful player, more physical than I expected based on what I recalled from scouting reports. I think there might be more of a finisher there than his 7 goals in 51 games would suggest. Beyond this rookie season I could picture him being perennially in that 15-25 goal range, with a strong physical game. That's a middle sixer that every team loves to have, a no brainer at 3M if true.

This would be a good time to resign him. Like others have said he has the potential to score more goals. I see him as a 20 goal, 30 assist guy one day…easily.

Yeah. He's really not pacing much off on the assists in his first year in North America. At some point, i think the puck will start going in for him a little more regularly and it's not a huge stretch to imagine that in a Top-6 role at least, he'll be able to hit ~20G pretty realistically. All while being the sort of big body presence and puck protector that helps complement and enhance what more creative/skilled linemates can do. That great yeoman "3rd wheel" on a Top-6 line.

He's older, but if he can take that extra little step as a finisher, he basically looks like exactly what Podkolzin was drafted Top-10 to potentially become. That sort of player when you find them and they "break out" offensively, tend to command a real premium on the market.

His age is really the only thing that throws a real wrench in what the term looks like...if the AAV is going to ring in around $3M. Makes me think shorter-term bridge, so he can still work out that bigger cash in while he's under thirty.
