Trouba and Buch have been bad. Seems like Buch does fine as long as he never receives the puck. Not sure that's what you want out of a top 3 forward.

after a good solid start to the game, the turnovers started, marc staal handled the puck and things went south.

There might be more pressure, but the systems and expectations are simpler. If it was 5 on 5 Smith would be expected to make plays that get the team moving the other way with control

When I watch Smith playing regular D, he seems to struggle a lot more with the same plays he does well with on the PK.

You know what that tells me?

The system is a failure..
