Under the circumstances, there really wasn’t much choice.

The Rangers weren’t going to go out and find a first line center, and Zibanejad was already here and under contract.

The real question is how he performs moving forward and whether the Rangers wish to remain tethered to him long-term.

The saving grace is, it's really not a bad contract.

Ok, who cares about the +/-, he still has a nothing game and barely did anything out there. There was no "dominance" that you speak of. Not that it's a big deal, he's a 19 year old rookie, but lets not try and pretend he played a good game when he clearly didnt.
I wasn’t the one who said dominance, but I thought he played really well in the first period, and then kind of whatever the rest of the game, but that doesn’t really add up to a poor game for a 19 year old for me

My fault, didn't realize it was someone else who said that.

No trust me, i'm not bashing at the kid, like i said too, he's a 19 year old rookie so it's to be expected he plays like a rookie in games...was just saying he was a part of a large group of forwards who didn't do much during most of the game.

Yeah it was pretty good but he was still in a state of denial/shock. Once the truth hit him for real he just seemed to go into a mini-depression. He looked lost the last 15 or so games of last season. This guy tonight looked like a player out to prove that he's a good player. Hopefully he keeps it up.
Haha. I want to believe he is getting comfortable with the coach, system, role.

This whole season screams effort, inexperience and lack of chemistry. I've yet to be upset by what I've seen from this team's future.

Staal is a corpse bc of age, not his fault. Skjei was bad today on a few plays but overall has stepped up big time this season.
Ada, howden and vesey have looked great.

Buch is scoring every game. Fast always plays decently.

Zuch may just be old and done.

Kreider looks slow and disengaged.

Zib is invisible and inconsistent same as always.

Chytil oozes skill but needs to make more effort.

I forgot hayes existed.

People are not capable of taking this season for what it is. Sucks for them.

Truth be told, disappointment in his play aside, it’s really not a bad situation in general.

The Rangers Brassard for him in a move that was widely seen as giving up a better player in the short term for a better player in the long term. Ultimately, Zibanejad was simply the better player since the trade.

And as you said, his contract isn’t bad and is certainly moveable — even if Zibanejad is “only” a second line player.
