Quinn knew what he was doing. His losing his shit on the refs was a calculated act to motivate the Rangers not to fold.

My only problem with the refs (aside from unexplainable delay in calling Strome’s high stick) is the extra minor on Lindgren for his stick spearing. It was there at the end of an altercation but considering everything that transpired on the whole game basis, it should have been spared.

I don't see much of Panarin, but he is f***ing amazing; easily the best player on the ice that night. As an Oilers fan, I saw that comeback coming a mile away

The game isn't about the refs. They are there to do their job, no more. If a coach is going at them too hard, all they need to do is skate over, give him a warning and if he persists, give him a bench minor.
If they let their perception of a coach bleed over into what calls they make on the ice, they have no business refereeing at the NHL level. I don't want to hear any bull**** about human nature. Do your job. You are supposed to be the best of the best, act like it.
nhl has no interest in referee quality. It’s been going on for decades. How many times have we seen Pittsburgh get phantom calls whether it’s against us or other teams. It makes you wonder what their goals are.

well theres no question the league is desperate for the oilers to make the playoffs. heck, any canadian team for that matter. but the oilers and toronto especially. whens the last time a canadian team won the cup? its been 25 years lol.

if theres a scenerio where the oil play a team who isnt going to make the playoffs or isnt expected to, and the refs were indeed bias, the call would come in games like we just played in.

i believe there is some built in bias against the ny rangers. FA's want to play here and its the biggest market in the world. no different than the yankees.

the bias is slight when it comes to refs however as they are pros and anything more than a suspicion would be too much. its there but its slight.

quinn acted stupidly and cost the team. period. right call or not, he made things worse. hes young hell learn. hell mature and smarten up and move past this behavior...

right ADA....er..... david

No he won't, the refs are replaceable and the job is in high demand, if they arent calling the game the way the NHL outlines they wont be doing games anymore. If the league has a problem with Quinn spouting off to the refs they will deal with it, it's not up to some guy with small man syndrome to do that. The problem with refs is they feel they have some power finally because they have a whistle but if they continue to mess up like these guys did in Columbus and like they did last night they will be doing games in the AHL until they lose the attitude. Referees are supposed to call the game unbiased, by the rules and according to the way the NHL outlines it, it's no place to carry a grudge from game to game. Its unprofessional and I'm almost positive they were told at the end of the 2nd to smarten up. Quinn did the right thing to call them out on their inability to call the game. They are being paid well to do a good job and that's not what they did last night and its embarrassing to the NHL.
Think the nhl guidelines are the problem. When they learn to describe what a penalty is and then stick to it, then we might have something.

Refs are not on two way contracts. Once they get promoted to full time NHL status they stay there. The NHL has fired less than 5 refs in over 20 years and most that have left retire. The officials are also a sort of union that can fight any termination( it’s part of the reason they are ok with the evaluation process.) Sorry to let facts get in the way of the “ these refs are terrible and Quinn should be allowed to act a fool over it” narrative.

You guys can’t get it— the ref did call it by the book— if he’s called to task by the NHL he simply says “well it’s the jab and cross check that I see there and I felt I had to clamp down at that point.” Done end of discussion, but that’s assuming the NHL would even call him which they won’t. I’d guarantee you no one called them after the second. Again, once the coach is benched the next time he acts up the ref goes straight to a game misconduct. It’s in the rule book— but again sorry to let facts stand in the way of a real good conspiracy hoax.

You guys who defend Quinn are a riot to me. If you are honestly happy with this teams performance I can’t wait to witness the euphoria on display here once the team actually is playing well with a real NHL coach at the helm.
And there’s the problem. He had to clamp down at that point. They need to clamp down at the beginning of the season and not let up. There would 20 power plays a game until the players adjusted.

Remember right when the standard of play initiative began many years ago— that season had incredible amounts of penalties called. Couple of pre-seasons ago they went on a clamp down and it went back to being tightly called. I very much agree that it is time for the NHL to clarify standards in certain calls because if the turnover in officials the league has experienced in recent years. That being said, situation like Lindgren getting 4 and the Oilers getting 2 will still go on. That’s a judgement situation and not set criteria will govern that judgement out of the game.
