Awesome game to attend in person. Especially sitting 15 feet away from Messier, Tim Robbins and the guitarist from the Strokes. Also had the pleasure of bumping into Chris Christie on the way out.

Panarin and Zib were unbelievable all night. Zib was also a beast defensively - made some key plays.

Jesper Fast also stuck out to me in a good way tonight. I always appreciate his hustle but he seemed to have a bit more jump this game.

Did you by any chance ask him if they are ever gonna tour again???

Wonder if they are tempted to call up Kravtsov with Lemieux out, not sure I would but i still wonder.

Didn't get to catch the game tonight, but I feel like normally when the Canes put up 40+ shots on us, there's an absurdly high number of low danger ones

Offside is in place as a means of structuring the game a particular way.

It was never meant to be called down to the half-inch.

Exactly. I'm not sure what's worse, the offsides reviews in hockey or VAR in football. Probably VAR since goals in soccer are rarer. These rules are designed around inches, maybe even a foot, not millimeters.

They had tons of great chances. Our D continues to collapse low, allowing opposing forwards to come in unimpeded. The only thing missing is rolling out the red carpet and showering them in confetti.

The "neighborhood" double play in baseball too.

are we still mad about the PP units? :naughty:
How many games did it take? We, as a collective, agreed that this should be the 'setup' when Zibs came back... It only took 15 games.... We still need a LHS for the right wall.

Strome has an under rated shot, he just never uses it.

Kreider and Zibs have something going. I'm starting to think he's not leaving. Kreider has a good amount of these no-look backhand setups..

That 4th line though....

Continue.

What on earth is Brady Skjei doing on the first goal against? (He has 2 votes tonight including mine to create a topic about him.)
He still continue to suck daily and you need to move that contract.. DeAngelo should stay even though others speculate that he moves at Trade deadline!

Well about 15% chance to reach playoffs for Rangers, maybe 15.3% after this important division win, but still J. Gorton should do something (like to move bad contracts) like B. Smith to continue the rebuild.

What exactly happened to Lemieux as I missed the game as I was driving back home from Montreal after visiting the wifey's family for xmas? I read he broke his hand. Was it a cheap BS shot from someone or was it just an unfortunate unlucky puck or stick that got him?

This injury blows enormously because as this point in time, Lemmy has become an indispensable piece in the lineup as he's pretty much the only one who provides any type of sandpaper any team requires and is one of the few who willingly goes into those greasy areas in front of the net.

Happy about the win but this injury to Lemieux is going to leave some skid marks. He's pretty much irreplaceable. Very unhappy about this

The one thing that shouldn't be lost in all this is that a) Carolina is a really good, very deep team and b) we beat them fair and square. Yes, Reimer didn't make the big save but most of the Ranger goals were clean and not really his fault. He didn't give up any brutal goals that turned the game around.

The Rangers can play and beat very good teams. The may not make the playoffs, but they are going to make the second half of the season very interesting.

How about Lindy Ruff's penalty kill?

(as he covers his head and ducks)

Anyone else get the feeling that the Rangers are sensitive to all the crap Lindy gets on social media and they are aggressively pushing his successes to counter those arguments?

yeah true, it`s not our playoffs window yet and with too many youth in the system like Nils Lundkvist & Kravtsov who might be NHL ready already next season! :)

Two plays stood out to me that calls hockey IQ into question watching tonight's game.

1st Canes goal tonight - lazy nonchalant backhand pass off the boards by Skjei then doesn't recover. The guy had time so not sure what he was thinking.

2nd Canes goal tonight. Howden chasing his stick behind the opposing goal line when the Canes are breaking out of the zone.

I'm sure there were more but they likely get glossed over because we got the win and I had a crappy feed so I missed some plays. Think my feed would be better living in Carolina.

Over the course of a 60 minute hockey game against a good hockey team there are going to be some bad plays as the 2 you mentioned were. There were more also. There were also some very good plays as well. Are we going to gloss over them as well?

Agreed Bob tho this year was never really about making the playoffs at least to me it wasn't. This year was all about getting the kids integrated into the Ranger system and learning what it takes to be a player in the NHL. So making the playoffs was likely a longshot to happen despite bringing in the Troubas, Panarins of the world.

Now that said and too your point, what would be fantastic and I've mentioned this before in a few posts, it would be awesome if the Rangers can stay competitive enough and close enough to the playoff periphery to where we have important March hockey games.

That my friend would be enormous for the kids to experience as intense stressful games where every shift is important is the kind of experience which is immeasurable and will help the Kakko's,Foxe's,Chytil's, Lindgrens, Howdens, Georgie's...etc down the line so that when we are a true playoff team which I anticipate will be next season, they'll know what to expect and they'll be able to handle , the pressure better.

Overall I have to say I'm pretty damn happy with how the season has gone. As you said, we've beaten some elite teams in the league, the kids are getting experience, we are watching two guys...Mika and Panarin become in front of our eyes two of the best fwds this team has ever had at the same time and we are competitive.

I dunno maybe I'm on an island here but honestly, I really could not ask for much more than what has occurred other than Lias having worked out and maybe Kravstov having been here since the get go. But other than those two hiccups, the rebuild that has been orchestrated for the most part by Gorton has gone as well as we could have possibly expected. So I be a happy camper despite some maddeningly frustrating losses we suffer at times which when you have as young a team as well is to be expected.

OK on to Toronto and let's get some revenge as they kicked our asses last time we played them!

It`s not @PuckLuck3043 - Brady missed the train since Ryan Mc. was moved to Tampa and it`s certainly not a based opinion on a 60 min. holiday game in NY in end of year 2019. I can go so far to partly blame our development staff, but I feel it`s too easy to name out couple of staff members since Brady was actually a really promising talent some years ago.
