First goal is a hockey play, the 2nd goal Georgiev mishandled the puck and it is entirely on him, 3rd goal is the 5 on 3 after Smith went 12 to 6 on Marner’s stick so again the same theme with the Rangers constantly being penalized, the 4th goal is again on Georgiev because that is an outside non-rising shot flat on the ice which was above the top of the faceoff circle by the boards, those are shots that should be guaranteed to stop, 5th goal Strome thought it was a good idea to play the puck back into the zone for puck possession but literally the opposite happened. Against highly skilled teams like Toronto, the puck should always be progressed up the rink and out of the zone as quickly as possible, too cute of a play to make.

Does anyone else miss the old days when 80% of NHL teams made the playoffs? Not that we'd go far anyway, but it sure would make me feel a lot more invested in watching the rest of the season. Didn't the North Stars make the finals one year with a sub .500 record? And actually took Mario's Penguins to 6 games? Too many friggin teams now.

ok what years since the 16 teams play off has 16 teams not made the playoffs?

The Teaching Coach™ experiment should end this in April. This level of consistent poor efforts on the ice, being outplayed, out shot, out scored combined with the poor production by the collective young core future of this team is reason enough. You can't keep losing and getting dunked on with terrible underlying numbers. Getting outshot 40-22 is getting to be the norm. Don't even feel it in game anymore. Edmonton kept diddling around with incompetent coaches who couldn't figure out a good defensive structure for a young group that needed it. I'd like to avoid that.

Quinn is going to get the 2.x years as the teaching coach until we fix everything and FIRE RENNEY! to become Tort's Kinda Guys

Correlating with Ruff coming in...

Not saying it's the cause but our defense/structure as a whole, has fallen apart since Ruff was introduced

2015 - 215 GA 30.4 SA/g .914sv%
2016 - 216 FA 30.2 SA/g .913sv%
enter Ruff
2017 - 263 GA 35.3 SA/g .909sv%
2018 - 267 GA 33.8 SA/g .904sv%
2019 - 258 GA 35.0 SA/g .910sv% *on pace

Lundqvist no longer a half of fame level player

Team is in a rebuild coming off their worst ROW season in franchise history

The reanimated corpse of Marc Staal is the only player on the roster from the years when the defense was decent

The correlation is Lindy Ruff!!!!!

Georgiev gave up 6 goals in the last 40 shots he faced before tonight, over the last 2 games. Then tonight he gave up 6 goals on 40 shots.

Hate to break it to you all but that is likely closer to what he’s going to be going forward than the 3 game hot streak at .965 sv%. He’s a talent for sure but he’s not going to be a legit star starter (imo of course) and that’s why we should try to sell high on him while we can. Sell high and call Igor up and now we have the Igor & Hank tandem PLUS whatever we get in a trade for Georgie.

Plus can’t help but lol at the fact that Uncle Larry posted and article today about the changing of the guard with Hank and Georgie and then Georgie has a brutal game. So ironic.

Exactly when scorers are scoring less

Errmmmaagoooddd right?

And when i commenting , when i saw "when the team is good", they gonna be more like 30-31 or 31-32

This team will be good and ready to compete in 2 years, not 4 or 5 like you say. You can't have a team made up entirely of 22 year olds. Zibs and Panarin are both playmakers and scorers. They are not going to just lose it in 2 years.

The Stars (Minny & Dallas) made the playoffs a good 5-6 times with a sub.500 records during the Lemieux run in Pittsburgh, however, they did not face the Pens at a time during the playoffs

Yes there is an exponential drop by 30. Zbad will drop harder than Panarin, and it will take 4-5 years [this year inclusive].

There were ties then.

Anyway 16 teams have made it to the 16 team playoff bracket since the 16 team playoff bracket started.

I'm not sure what "the old days" the OP was referencing.

It doesn't take a brilliant mind to see that scorers get much less good by 30.

Nor does it take a Westinghouse finalist to see that the Rangers need 4-5 years of work to be competitive.

30 is still 4 and 3 years away for them and that still does not mean they won't be productive players at that point. This team can also be ready to take the next step in 2 years which would be 4 full years into a rebuild. Absolutely possible.

Or maybe they just don't have the personnel.

We have some personnel. We had some personnel last year as well before the Zuccarello and Hayes trades. The Senators haven't had the benefit of good goaltending like us and they're fielding a far better defensive game and product with far better consistency.

Panarin will be 30 opening night of the 21-22 season, which is 2 seasons from now.

It's going to take this team 3-4 years to be good, and then 2-3 to hit a cup.

You are right about his age, I thought he was 27, not 28. Still no big deal. We will see how long it takes this team to take the next step.

Look at how long it takes teams to become stanley cup winning teams on average from when they bottomed out

Then add another negative multiplied due to traditional Madison Avenue short term spending and thinking

And then I would not take the odds on the Rangers bucking the trend of the time it takes for teams to be legit.

Did not expect to make the playoffs. But its early to end the season before christmas. Surely one has to look into trading Zibanejad. For a team to have him for 3 playoffs for under 5,5 million must be worth a fortune for the Rangers.

That's why I looked it up...that would have been headline news (we actually had hockey coverage in those days).

(Also, technically there are still ties....they just changed the name to "loser points" to justify that extra point when they bragged to the masses they were eliminating ties altogether...Yes, a game always and a W or L -- however, if they were true to their word, they wouldn't be giving points out at the end of regulation because score is tied and OT is required (Note -- this is before the winner is even determined)...
