Ok, and if we're conceding that Quinn isn't an X's and O's guy (no excuse to have historically bad shot rates but let's put that aside), and is here to develop, I'd like to see better development.

I mean, ****, for the X's and O's hockey we're playing, I wanna see the type of development where Kakko is kicking mother****ers like Sagat from Street Fighter. We're certainly not getting that.
I'm totally on your side when it comes to saying he has not been good. People complained and whined that he wasn't given the opportunity to play with Panarin and/or Mika. What do those people have to say now? At the same time, expecting an 18 year old with no prior North American hockey experience to kick the asses of grown men in the NHL is unrealistic.

almost as if an 18 year old from Finland might need 3 months to settle in a bit while still putting up respectable numbers in the meantime.

I mean, yeah, there's taking time to settle in, not exactly kicking ass, and then there's...this.

I'd like to see a little more form him.

We are a young team learning to be professionals, nothing more nothing less. The coach is doing a great job, our players are getting better ie Chytil, Fox, Howden, Lindgren and I believe once Kakko realizes he doesnt need to defer to Panarin he will get better. I'm curious to see how Anderson and Kravtsov look in their next nhl appearance, whenever that is.

See, there's different kinds of bad in the NHL.

There's actively nuking your own team. (Marc Staal)

There's just doing absolutely nothing. (Jimmy Vesey)

And then there's just hard to watch / frustrating / dumb as a f***ing rock. (Brady Skjei)

Howden is somehow all three.

Howden has really regressed I won’t argue that. I thought he’d take a step this year. He’s been worse this year

I disagree, but mainly because I'm not expecting him to be a 20 goal scorer. I find him fairly reliable and a good compliment on the 3rd line to Lemieux. He is young as well and I still believe once he fills out he will be more able to play the style he needs to, much like Lias

You just hope that they continue to work with them between games. I mean, that's what they're being paid to do, right? Or, maybe some of them don't learn as fast as others. Did you catch the shot of Quinn animatedly talking to Howden in the game?

I agree that his upside is a 3C but we should be seeing improvement yoy from him. He has not been very good defensively. He is not generating any offense. There is very little positive about his game right now.

Was at the game.

1 - Team played well enough to win. Not perfect. But Ducks weren't the better team.
2 - Lundqvist's inconsistency is something that needs to be monitored. Yes, he's seeing a lot of rubber and yes he's stopping some difficult shots. But so do most NHL goalies. The last several games its as if his mind is working faster than his body. He's fighting high shots to both glove and blocker side. Rebound control continues to be a big issue. He's kicking out just fine despite slower reaction time. Bottom line, the 2nd and 3rd goals were ones he wants back. On the 2nd, He overplayed the shooter and took himself completely out of the net. And on the 3rd, he was kinda screened but that's a puck he needs to find. The question worth asking is this: if we didn't have Georgiev as the 1A or Shesty in the wings how concerned would you be about our goaltending/Lundqvist? Because as much as he gets the raw end of the deal being compared to the new toys, he also gets the benefit of the comfort they provide the fanbase regarding our goalie situation. I really think that if they plan on dealing one of the young guns and keeping Hank as a back up we need a much more defense oriented system where we're clearing the crease, blocking shots and smothering the slot. Because he just needs more support going forward. He can't carry the team anymore.
3. Staal weirdly had a solid game today.
4. When we take a penalty, it doesn't just effect us for 2 minutes. But more like 4. Because our PK employs Strome and Zibby (our top 2 centers) and no other top 6 forwards, it means the lines are a complete jumble for 2-3 shifts after a penalty expires. So every penalty essentially takes the Rangers out of their flow and chemistry for 20% of any period. And hurts the ice time of players like Chytil, Buch and Kakko.
5. Its clear that Buch and Chytil have very good chemistry. Ditto Strome and Panarin. But Zibby, Kakko, Kreider are sort of marching to their own beat. We need to find Zibby a winger he has chemistry with. It SHOULD be Kreider, but Kreider has no puck confidence at all and seems unable to read off anyone ATM.
6. Can anyone tell me the last time the Rangers had a dangerous rebound opportunity? Like one that was off a legit shot on goal? The team MUST find a way to consistently score dirty goals. They can't all be pretty, cause there's no shooting.

He had two good chances early. One of them was a tip-in chance from in close to Gibson from a long pass by Lemieux. His body positioning in protecting the puck and along the boards has improved. Hockey, like every other sport, is a game of inches. Learn where to be away from the puck and things will click. Like @KreiderBomb said, he needs to mature physically to man up for working the corners and half walls.

His reaction time is way behind on many shots. Why do they have to deal one of the young kids in favor of him for 1.65 seasons? It doesn't make sense. And before anyone criticizes me of disrespecting or treating him like crap, he's had a tremendous career but the numbers he's posting tell the story. Are they really going to resign him as a 38-year-old backup for an affordable deal?

@Machinehead because the earlier post was closed: I wouldn't say the entire team stinks behind Panarin. Fox and TDA have been excellent. Chytil is a much more well rounded player. Lindgren is establishing himself as an NHLer. Georgiev is practically the starter. I think Hajek's been fine. Lemiuex is an excellent middle six rat. And Kaako is on pace to have a rookie season similar to Eric Staal which for an 18-year-old isn't bad.

You can point to Buchnevich being underwhelming and Lias not establishing himself, but not every young player gets better at the same time, and not every young player ends up being a part of a core.

It's not the entire team, but as a unit, they're f***in guano

Holy **** the takes in here are absolutely piping hot.
I mean, really.

I was infuriated by the goals Hank let in, but people are acting like the Rangers weren’t the better team for 2 of the 3 periods and OT.

And to say they were only the better team in only 4 out of 32 so far...? :shakehead

They’re rebuilding. They’re the youngest team in the league. And I see good things in almost every game. What’s more, the bad things I see come mostly from guys who won’t be here in a year or two.

They’re exactly where I expected them to be, and I am very encouraged.

I really don't think anyone is being hyperbolic.

This team blows like a hair dryer.
And yet they’re hovering right at true .500. They have bad periods. As young teams do. Some of the older vets that management is biding its time on removing via trade or buyout or retirement are beginning to show signs that they’re at the end of their tenure. As older players on rebuilding teams do.

As irritated as I was at Hank just after the game ended, I remain very encouraged.

Ok, let's get one thing straight, they have good periods

FWIW, Henrik statistically didn't have a bad game. It was almost exactly as expected.

Okay, I have to admit I’ve been rolling my eyes a bit at the fact that this game caused you to launch into one of your legendary moods, but this made me give a legitimate chuckle.

You'd be surprised at the good moods I can be in when the Rangers consistently outplay their opponents but we haven't seen that in six god damn years!

I pictured the Jimmy McMillan "taxes are too damn high" meme tone.
