Surely it would make more sense to leave that to the review team if needed and position yourself closer to centre ice so that if there's a turnover/breakaway, you aren't 200ft away trying to guess what happened at the other end of the rink?

Whether it is high level or not doesn't even matter. Point is those games can be pretty fast to follow when you are at eye level as a ref. For all you know the ref in the corner had a player in between him and Fox blocking his view. This is exactly why you have 2 refs.
