We have that record in spite of him, not because of him.

I disagree. His presence makes our opponents divide their D-pairings over several lines. Nash is playing better because he gets to play against 2nd pairings with the top pair focussing on MSL

Even if McD has been better than Hank this season, this team still thrives or dies with Henrik Lundqvist. Whether you want to admit it or not, Lundqvist is the rangers.

The way I look at the Rangers vs Devils goalie situation: Richter was a more talented and hard working goalie than Brodeur. He played on worse teams (after '97) and had injury problems. Finally a god arose from the ashses of Richters' legacy. He was a swedish chef.

He not only was a harder worker thank Brodeur, but he also benefited from not playing behind teams that were total ass. Thus, he has dominated Marty in head to head play. Fitting that his shutout record comes against Marty and NJ.

That said, I'm not one of the dumbass fans that acts like Marty was ****. I don't want to praise a rival in our own thread, but Marty is top 3 of all time, with Roy and Hasek. His records speak for themselves. He's an amazing goalie. He will be revered as possibly the greatest of all time.

That said, Hank and Richter are my boys. I must say I love the fact that this is potentially Marty's last game against NYR and in this game Hank not only had a shutout but broke the all-time Rangers record. Just a nice coincidence.

Was at the game, thought zucc was a beast and was impressed with staal, don't know why I noticed him a lot tonight but he played physical - you could notice he was tired though.

I thought Diaz looked good, he made several smart plays. He made one really good play on the PP that I thought was really smart. So good first game in the NHL for him. I was surprised to see him get so much time in the 3rd period in a one goal game especially on the PP.
.

Just in case this wasn't a typo, it isn't his first game in the NHL. He played 129 games for the Canadians and 6 games this season for the Canucks.

Glad to see that people here liked his first game. His place is definitely in the NHL and on the ice.

mcd got a secondary assist on the EN goal. somehow he passed it to henke who got it to stepan lol. mcdonagh is 15th in the league among dmen in points. hes 4 points away from kronwall in 10th. i really think hes gotta be top 10 in points to have a shot of a norris nominee. the only players with more points that would be deserving of a norris nominee IMO are Keith, Subban, Weber, and Pietrangelo. Weber is even debatable due to being on a **** team and having such a poor +/-. Im not sure what the worst +/- is for a Norris winner is but i cant imagine their being many winners with a negative +/-.
I think mcdonagh - and, actually, a good number of rangers - are peaking right now. They have looked very lively and engaged. Its great to see. Aside from mcd and nash, I think zuccarello and pouliot have been pretty thrilling every shift they've taken recently. Not that this is news, but I wanted to mention.

Why imply Brodeur's lazy? The guy has been a brilliant goalie. A legend. And in general I love watching Devils-Rangers games. Always a good, clean, hard-fought, battle. It has been a terrific rivalry and Marty has a lot to do with it. The teams actually seem to play each other with respect. Which is kinda rare these days.
(I readily admit I sound like a senile geezer :)

Yeah Pouliot dropped the gloves the other day. And Zucc is also willing to fight, obviously not afraid of being a few inches short. But the refs just wont let him go

Never said Brodeur was lazy. Richter just had a work ethic that eclipsed anyone else in the entire league. One of the hardest working players ever.

I even said Marty is a legend and one of, if not the best of all time. I'm not one of the folks that thinks that Marty's success is the product of the system. He obviously benefited from playing on defense first teams, but it's not like he's an average goalie who lucked into some cups. The guy is unreal, such natural ability. I have so much respect for Marty and what he's accomplished. He's amazing.

As much as I like Moore, I liked what I saw with Diaz...

Yeah, I mean I only saw the 1st last night but he played real well. I saw him several games for Montreal when he played in a top 4 role, and he was real good. The fact that Torts didn't like him only proves that he is a PMD and we all know that Torts bans his Ds from moving the puck, Vans mgm tried to force feed Torts some puck movement.

Hank! Two franchise records and about to fix those stats for the year again? What a turnaround. We always knew it though.

McD! I lack words. Elite.

Pouliot, Zucc and Angry Nash! I like these three a lot.

A strong defensive game and with the way MSL was setting up plays we should've won even more comfortably. He may not be getting the points just yet but he's setting up the plays which is a positive for sure.

Diaz looked amazing on that PP! His puck movement really elevated our play there. Promising start as a Blueshirt.

I already posted, but this was a great game. Really confident in this team going forward.

If MSL/his linemates start potting his chances/the chances he sets up, look out.

I asked this question a few times but it always seemed to get buried. Does anyone know why Zucc wasnt on the PP this match ? Who replaced him ?

Ah okie. Cool. I misunderstood.

How was Diaz defensively? Wasn't he a top 4 guy for the Habs last year? I think as a 6 he's pretty damn good.

I think AV inserted him for offensive zone draws often, to protect/leverage him. I dont remember him having to defend a ton but maybe that just means he did a nice job.

Well, keeping the puck in the offensive zone is a skill. Starting shifts off in the offensive zone doesn't guarantee that it'll end there. So good job by him, I say!

Really hoping the Rangers don't flatline against an out of conference bubble team. We need all the points. I really hope AV gears them up for revenge after that embarrassing first game that ruined his debut.

Like like Diaz's pivotal skating, the one issue is he has no reach at all.

I think, given the lack of offense from our blueliners not names McDonagh, he could certainly make a place for himself for the balance of the season. He seems to be more what I'd hoped Stralman would be when he got here.

The presence of Diaz, (if he follows up his debut with similar steady play), could very well make the departure of Stralman inevitable. Diaz could be an ideal stopgap solution for if/when McIlrath is ready.
