Not burying them early killed us. At least Kakko scored and we were okay, not surprised we looked sloppy coming out of the break.

It was pretty much down hill after the 5-3 and the ice did neither team favours. I do think you guys have a gem in Kakko, his goal was beautiful.

Tony has definitely struggled and I’m a huge fan of his but he’s struggled he needs to step up.

I do see where he has a little bit might MDZ syndrome, where he's an OFD who has huge holes in his offense.

Then again, his partner has huge holes in his hockey.
He's misfired on some plays this season, but I don't really see any fundamental holes in his offensive skillset aside from a lack of shot power (which is something he shares with most smaller defencemen). Vision, passing, skating, agility and stickhandling are all (usually) top notch.

His defence, especially in transition, still needs work though - which is why I find it puzzling he is being deployed as a pure shutdown defenceman 5v5. While he did do very well in the role last year it's not one that plays to his strengths and with Fox and Trouba on the roster I think he is the least suited for that particular role out of our RDs.

1)I think you don't understand how important Svechnikov is to Carolina, yet.
2}You said a 20-year-old shouldn't be the glue of a lineup. In Carolina, my opinion is that a 19-year-old is just that. That Chytil wasn't as much of a prospect is part of a different discussion.
He's one of their best offensive players for sure. Take that away from any team and they suffer. That said, Carolina's lineup functions without him. It makes logical sense. Guys still slot into roles reasonably.

None of that can be said for the Rangers right now. Our entire lineup collapses from top to bottom without...Filip Chytil.

That's so pathetic it's almost impressive.

Well that's because he's with Staal and we all know how he shuts everyone down.

This does not look ideal. And the Staal-DeAngelo pairing is awful.

Can I ask where you got that from? That is a neat chart.

They’re going to let Chytil play this weekend and in my opinion if he plays well he’ll be up this week.

Lemieux is not a top 9 player imo. He’s not. But he can do a nice job on that 4th line. Let him kill penalties but zero reason for him to be in the top 9 or on the PP.

Panarin Zibanejad Buchnevich
Kreider Chytil Kakko
Lias Howden Fast
Lemieux Strome Smith

Lemieux is not Wilson or Avery. Never will be.

He's Kassian. He's an annoying prick who can play in the NHL but you limit him as much as possible.

Afternoon games always suck. The PP looked scary but didn't score. Reasonable after a week off I suppose. They get into a hot streak this could turn into a very dangerous team.

Tippett’s got the Oilers play some more old school style 2000s hockey and it’s working for them because of their top end talent. Frankly, I’m not sold on them at the moment. I question where their scoring depth is going to come from as the season wears on. They could probably will their way to 42-44 wins in this fashion if their goaltending holds up, but that’s the biggest question mark. They could be dangerous if they get in though, because McDavid/Draisaitl getting hot is enough to win series. They definitely need another quality winger at minimum though.

This team is going to steal a lot of games they shouldn’t because of the top end talent.

Get ready to rain on everyone’s parade because this is going to be your quintessential season for that.
I knew that. It's just strange reading the comments about taking a step back today. Like, people thought we were good in the first two games? :help:

We're in the middle of one. We're 2-1 and we should be 0-3.

I know your post is in half jest but I have to push back. They're 2-1 and should be 2-1. Results are what matters. If there are no rewards for pretty losses, then you can't ding the team for ugly wins.
