What an awful, condescending, downright stupid response when I was trying to be pretty fair and reasonable while talking about concerns I had. I wasnt even f***ing rude to you. I acknowledged how young the team is and how covid f***ed up training camp MYSELF.

And then you sarcastically bring it up like Im an idiot who doesnt realize it?

Thanks for being a complete dick to me for no reason

Kind of his MO

Miller won’t be scratched. He was touted and talked up by all of the coaches aNd higher ups. They’d feel to embarrassed to do the wrong thing. Thankfully.
He needs playing time, I don't expect him to play up to his potential right out of the gate coming into the NHL

Who do you propose they replace in the top-6?

It's a matter of playing more, playing through mistakes. Strome hasn't done much so far. This team is a borderline playoff team at best, it'd be better to have the kids developing, getting better as the season goes along I want to see Kakko/Lafreniere developing, not being glued to the bench after an iffy shift or being stuck with 4th line grinders so Quinn can play Howden/DidGiuseppe more. In the last minute they had Lemieux on the ice trying to score a tying goal. What the bleep?

You know Edge, I have had two posters argue with me the last two days about Strome and how he is a good hockey player. I continually dropped that image to then. They just kept responding that if DQ keeps playing Strome in the top 6 and on PP1 then that must mean something. Challenging me that I was staking my claim as being smarter than an NHL coach, as if NHL coaches never get things wrong.

Strome is not a good hockey player. The same shortcomings that have crippled him from being a prominent player in this league after his top 5 pick status, are happening today. He is just not a good hockey player. If he is not making stupid, stupid passes, he is taking lazy penalties, or missing defensive assignments.

Strome stinks.
To be fair, Strome is not a bad hockey player. Every player, who make it to an NHL contract, is a good player. He might not be good enough for NHL though. But Strome had 59 points last year. He is a decent player at this level. Guess that will place him, among the best 1000 forwards in the world?

He is not a good player by NHL standards. Stop looking at point totals. The underlying metrics show he is quite incompetent when the puck is on his stick. He is a liability defensively. And he takes lazy penalties. Plays lazy. Lazy in his decision making. 59 points riding the coattails of someone who is an elite hockey player.

Strome has struggled through 3 games, sure. But I doubt any coach in the league would bench a vet 3 games into the season. They will work through their mistakes, but if you are looking for them to get into the top-6, it is a rather tall order right now. At least on the left. Kakko and Lafreniere had more ice time than Howde, DedGuiseppe & Lemieux. Perhaps they are not ready for more. Again, 3 games in and I am more than willing to give it some time.

And as of right now, I am more than willing to see if Kakko and Chytil can continue to show something.

He will be stubborn on Johnson all year. He's not going to sit.

Coaches around the league have obsessions with these type of players.
JJ was brought in on the recommendation of Martin. Martin was universally cheered around here. JJ is someone he feels comfortable with. Perhaps it is because Johnson knows his system. Perhaps Quinn wants to see what his new assistant head coach and a person tasked to build a new defensive structure sees in him. So Johnson is going to get a bit of a leash. At least right now. If he continues to play the way that he has been, I am sure he is going to find his way to the bench.

True but Allaire will straighten him out, I'm not worried for him as a backup. IMO Overall the defense has never been good under Quinn though
To be fair, look at the assortment of the defense under Quinn. Rookies, Trouba, a defensively challenged DeAngelo and the dregs of players on their last legs. On top of which, they are trying to install a new defensive system but had to do that with a camp that lasted two weeks and had no exhibition games.

On most nights in a season, the Rangers win this game.

And, to be honest, KK looked like shit out there, and he was also swarmed by Devils
Did he look like shit "because" he was swarmed? OR was he swarmed because the Devils placed emphasis on making sure he was not a factor?
Something the Rangers "should have done" with Hughes?
Wow, take away Hughes game, and what offensive prowess do the Devils actually have? Maybe Quinn overlooked Hughes?
Jeez. Yet actually wonder why u think he looked like shit. Certainly not exceptional, but probably not like shit. Super high standards baby! Yes, I want more too. Much more, but theres time.

This makes more sense than anything. Obviously JJ is a cheaper version of Marc. Horrific play is one thing, but complaining just to complain and fining scapegoats.....well, I aint with it. Not defending JJ, nor getting on poster here.....but, would we all want Marc back at his pricetag?

It was a combination of those things.

I mean if hindsight is 20-20 and Henrik went on LTIR with us instead of being bought out, we could have simply kept Marc and saved a 2nd round pick.

Don't agree that JJ is AS bad as Staal though. At least Johnson is better than guys like Bittetto and Claesson who are basically full time AHL defenseman. Marc wasn't measurably better his last 2 seasons.

What is this? Of course Strome is good enough for the NHL. The question is only whether he is good enough for a Top-6 role.

You might say he’s limited. If fast is carrying you then you’re a 3/4th line player. Panarin can make me look like a star and my trade is goalie.
Yes, we know. Anyone can do it.

I will however say that as much as I have defended him, his play in the first 3 games has been poor. And that may be being generous. If his performance does not go up at all in the next game or two, it will be time for a demotion.

fast did so much for strome, strome is limited.
Maybe this is true. I’d love to actually see Buch on the second line and Kakko on the first line. I think that would be more complimentary to both lines.

I know people don’t want to break up KZB, but I’d like to see it happen for just a game to see what Kakko looks like with Zib for 5 on 5 hockey.

And maybe having Buch with Strome and Panarin would give them more of a finishing touch.

Alternatively, just move up Chytil and move down Strome. You have to get that line going more.
