so Keefe has already lost the room then?
i really dont think they played a "bad" 3rd period. they played well and then had some old habits crop up. they have played very well defensively this year. sometimes you gotta get humbled..if they dont respond in the next 2 games then i will have a different level of concern.

edit: winning streaks are usually followed by bad stretches of play. we allowed ourselves to get a little too overconfident and these last 2 games are showing we can lose to anyone if we dont take them seriously enough.

I think when you have a 5-1 lead, okay it's normal to stop forechecking as hard or to just do more of a neutral zone clog and have dmen sit deeper. Being defensive is fine. But you can't actually stop skating which is what it looks like they did, they got waaay too casual around the middle of the 2nd (actually when they had a 4-1 lead) and I'm not completely shocked it came back to bite them.

Honestly you are over rating the North. Calgary , Edmonton and Vancouver are not that good. The Pacific division was the weakest of the 4 last year.

...and the West has the dregs from that division.

In comparing the "middle power" teams from the Central and North, here is how they looked head to head last year:

Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg combined record against the Stars last year: 6-2-2 Stars went on a good run in the playoffs. Doesn't mean they'd even make it there again.
Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg combined record against the Florida last year: 4-1 Still think Cats are a mirage.
Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg combined record against the Jackets last year: 5-1 Jackets struggled against West Canada.

Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg vs Stars, Florida, Jackets last year:

15-4-2 for the North team.

Just dont like to see our own fans running down our division is all. Finally in a league with balanced divisions and it gets used against us. Would you rather be in the bloodbath Atlantic again? Have another top 5ish record and still not get home ice? Sheesh.

I notice a lot of names that havnt shown up in the 11 wins this team has had. Too many trolls lurkin' about.
They're hilarious. Only took a monumental goalie meltdown for them to get brave enough to make an appearance.

This isn't all on Andersen. It's also on a bunch of bum efforts of which Tavares stands out the most for me.

It seemed like he was a double agent tonight giving every puck to the sens every chance he had.

we have 11 wins in 15 games, some people are just sad lol. was a sh**ty loss, oh well. they all mean the same thing in the standings. learn and move on!!! go leafs!!

I wouldnt even take it that far though. The playing too loose (in a way we wouldnt in a close game) before the period and paying for it with less than 10 seconds left...the perfect random timing to spring a guy out of the box....the stick getting slashed out of our guys hands to give them a 5 on 3 down low....the weird bounce getting knocked out of the air. Its almost like it was meant to be.

None of those goals were from sustained pressure or getting badly outplayed at the time. They did have occasional pressure but nothing too crazy.

I thing Hogbergs play in the third period was the biggest factor of the game. Some real nice point blank saves...

Reilly was overly aggressive. Bit him in the ass. Matthews could have easily won the game but nobody passed him the puck.

That's who Rielly is, sometimes it gets you sometimes it's the play that wins you the game

Hurt us this game, probably win us the next one

Love the player for what he is, not what he isn't

Better to lose points vs the sens than against a team contending. The sens have upset MTL and WPG too.
Its better to simply not give up points regardless of the opponent.. but most importantly, you know the other teams in the division are going to feast off of the sens so the leafs can’t be the ones losing points to a team they should be beating

I felt bad for Ottawa and the future of their franchise when it was 5-1.

I could tell Matthews felt the same, he couldn't even bring himself to celebrate his 2nd goal.

Then the 3rd period happened and the rest is history.

It was pretty much all on Andersen tonight. He was by far the sloppiest player on the ice tonight.

the "cute plays" are absolutely no indication we were being hemmed in, they are more of an indication that we were probably a bit too overconfident. the icings had 0 to do with pressure, just boneheaded plays. hyman had all the space in the world to carry the puck as far as he wanted yet just heaved it in. its not like ottawa was coming shift after shift and we allowed 3 in a short period of time and were being overwhelmed. we played well, then mistake, then had a bunch of shifts in their end then mistake...these guys arent babies, blaming keefe for this makes 0 sense to me.

Keefe is to blame because he was aware of the garbage that was taking place and he did nothing to either bench the players playing the worst, not calling a timeout to regrouo as they clearly needed a message sent.

Here is a quite from keefe himself:
“What I saw started before the 5-1 lead … we got sloppy with the puck,” Keefe said, adding that the problem has “been creeping into our game.”

And he continued to watch it play out.

Rielly is a shinpad warrior. The only D-man we ever had in the recent pass that can get the puck through was Gardiner everyone else just hits shin pads or high and wide

We do not even have a point shot threat on the PP; that is a freakin' joke.

P.S. I love Mo; but lately he has been getting on my nerves
Sandin will help us out there when he's in the show full time.

P.S. I feel the same
