Any idea why Shattenkirk didn't play in the 3rd? I didn't notice during the game, but that can't be insignificant, can it?

Any word on if there was an injury? Or is he in Quinn's doghouse, do you think?

There were about 10 ahead of him tonight who deserved the dog house. Hopefully he didnt get reinjured.

He certainly didn't stand out negatively to me.

Am I correct that Smith was playing forward for the first 2 periods before replacing Shattenkirk on D in the 3rd?

If I was going to miss a game and have to be stuck with a DVR of center ice that isn’t even decent quality, I’m glad it was this one. I’ll go home, erase the game from my DVR and watch something else.

Yeah absolutely. Skjei in particular was brutal.

Makes me wonder if something happened behind the scenes between Shatty and Quinn? Quinn was asked about it and said it would stay between him and Shatt.

Overall the only player I thought had a decent game was Lias. He actually looked pretty good. Good for him to get some shifts away from the AHLers.

I really don't get why the Chytil/Hayes/Kreider line was broken up in the first place. It should be put back in place ASAP for next game because that line really carried the offense. Unless this was to reward Strome and give him more minutes and therefore impacted the other lines. Vesey looked pretty mediocre when he wasn't with Howden.

Why did Gettinger get like two shifts in third? Was he really worse than anyone else? He at least forechecked and got the puck deep a few times. I don't get why he didn't get a shift with let's say a Kreider. Quinn has this weird thing with rookies where it seems in crunch time he won't play them their first 10-15 games in the league.

It's really simple, keep the lines you had, put Anderson in Namestnikov's place with Ziba and Fast, and alternate centers with the 4th liners.

I don't get the Shattenkirk thing either. He wasn't as bad as Skjei or TDA who had an off game last night.

I feel bad for Shattenkirk. Guy was a good productive D-man before he signed for the Rangers. Imagine coming to your litteral dream team, and your career take a nosedive.

Shattenkirk was incredible the first few games. Been spotty after that. Guy is really struggling at the moment. Wonder if a change of scenery would be good for both parties?

I think that may have been the single worst lineup the Rangers have put on the ice in recent memory and maybe since the dark ages. Had absolutely no expectation other than what occurred.

I honestly feel bad for Ottawa. That building/ crowd/ organizational situation is just so depressing.

We spend a lot of time talking about skill, and that’s very important. But this team really needs to keep adding depth and that’s where my primary focus is at this point in time.

Now, this is team is particularly hit hard right now, but it does kind of underscore the importance of filling out a roster.

Depth?!? You can’t honestly believe the Rangers are just a few depth forwards away from being a complete team. That conclusion is beyond my understanding! These “depth” guys that are currently on the roster are completely irrelevant, they won’t be pieces of this team moving forward. They are simply stop gaps/charity cases or the like.

Depth is something teams with legitimate talent look to get when entering playoff runs! The Rangers have nothing but 15-30 players in the organization that are all AHL+ NHL- type guys. As evidenced by the recent call ups( who are both pathetic, can’t keep up with the pace of the game and look totally incapable of NHL minutes) Hartford is a ghost town right now, but getting another depth forward is totally meaningless on this team. Without top end talent it is irrelevant who is on the third and fourth line.

Maybe in a few years we will be in a position to acquire depth but please, let’s focus on what’s important which is getting top end talent!

Depth is having prime Boyle and Moore on the fourth line. They'd probably be second liners on the current roster which is lacking top six talent.

Idk how Quinn's presser went but honestly idk that this is a big deal. It's a young team bereft of experience, talent, strength and depth. I am stunned they haven't performed like this way more often.

A lot of it is stupidity too not lack of effort. Get mad at the stupidity if you're the coach, keep coaching effort but I dont view this as end of the world stuff

His career took a nosedive before then. He was a 3rd pairing Dman in both St Louis and Washington. He’s a in zone PP specialist. Effectively a 1 zone player.

ADA took a bad penalty but the place to bench him was during that game... sending him to the press box for the next one won’t teach him anything and could ensure this slide continues

I think you completely misunderstood what I was saying.

By depth, I am talking about continuing to stock pile young talents and picks, not the stop-gap players currently on the roster. Specifically, higher-end young talents.

2009-10 (Kotalik/Higgins/Brashear and later Eric Christensen as 1C) called and said hold my beer.

Also while I really enjoyed the 2010-11 season, remember that stretch when everyone was injured and guys like Chad Kolarik/Brodie DuPont/Evgeny Grachev were up? It's ironic because Fogarty is the guy they got from STL with the pick for Grachev lol.

Last night sucked, but their response tomorrow night will tell a lot about the resiliency in this group of kids. I don't know who to praise other than mention Lias having a really solid game at LW. I'd like to see him get the bump up in the lineup because I wasn't a fan of Strome at all on Mika's wing.

Strome in limited minutes is a very effective player. Top 6 not so much. He reminds me of like a 6th man in the NBA. Come in, explode for a few minutes, recharge, etc. Kind of like the way Chris Andersen aka The Birdman played.

We lost.

We have been doing less of that than I thought we would.

tonight we played down to competition. I guess I'd be more mad if I thought we really had something here, but we don't
