24/25 Waivers/Rumors/TDL Thread.

I had the right train of thought lol. He definitely had a horrible off-season, I could see a Chiarot like bounce back to where he's actually useful next year

Will be a contract year for him aswell, plenty of motivation.

He really should be a decent 3rd-liner, so should Compher. On paper it's a good 3rd-line, and an expensive one.

Todd spoke about pairs when forming lines.

Larkin-Raymond
Kasper-Debrincat
Compher-Tank

Semi-realistic line-up.

Danielson-Larkin-Raymond
Debrincat-Kasper-Boeser
Söderblom-Compher-Tarasenko
Mazur-Copp-Rasmussen

Provorov-Seider
Edvinsson-Johansson
Chiarot-Gustafsson/ASP

Talbot
Mrazek
Cossa

If ASP can have Makar/Hughes/Fox/Hutson level impact, from the get go and take a top-4 slot, then this is for sure a team that should cruise to the play-offs.

Lalonde-season (first 34 games) with Copp = 0.441 points percentage
McLellan-season (next 22 games) with Copp = 0.727 points percentage
McLellan-season (last 22 games) without Copp = 0.386 points percentage

The PK problem could mainly be losing Copp. And Rasmussen injury happened at same time. The PK was improving with Yawney, but those forward changes killed it. They had to learn everything from the start with weaker PK players.

The Copp/Compher hate is crazy. Are they good 2nd line Cs? No. Are they good 3rd line Cs? Yes. They are redundant and were overpaid, but with the cap going up will likely be movable. So pick one and slot him where he belongs on the 3rd line.

The defense needs two good players this offseason and then I think it's likely the Wings can make the playoffs assuming the goaltending doesn't sink them.

Danielson-Larkin-Raymond
Debrincat-Kasper-Kane (other UFA)
Soderblom-Copp-Tarasenko
Mazur-Rasmussen-Watson (this whole line is placeholders)

NEED A FA/TRADE - Seider
Edvinsson - Johansson/ASP
Chiarot/UFA - Johansson/ASP

Talbot/Mrazek

I guess it might be possible to get by with one add on D if ASP is really good as a rookie, but two would be better. The second add would ideally be someone that can play on the 2nd pair if necessary, but also slot in on the 3rd pair if you can move Chiarot.

What a thoughtful response.

I said "I think it's likely they can," not they will. That roster is better than what they had this year and would improve throughout the year as the young players grow. If you're hoping for a better roster than that you are highly likely to be disappointed. We'd all love Marner, but he ain't joining a team as far away from contention as the Wings.

Who are some players we can get through trade that might cost not too much ? Not much out in Ufa

Kreider
Zibanejad
Evander kane
Bertuzzi
Stamkos
Crouse
Pageau

Other players who might be had ...

Romanov
K’andre miller
Hague
Byram

Maybe someone we can offer sheet that won’t cost much or make a trade for?

Lohrei
Jack quinn
Mctavish (doubt ducks don’t match unless we offer 9+)
Samoskevich
colangelo (still unproven but I’d do a 1 yr 2,5 mill type offer , like his size)

Any other players we should look at ?

wings need 2 top 4 dmen, ajo is not a top 4 dman, he is a 5/6. wings need a top 6 forward and some grit on the bottom lines. berg, holl, petry, compher(keep copp) need to exit left. they need Ed to wake up and learn that he needs to play quicker, and learn to stay on his feet, never seen a dman fall so much.

Lol why would danielson surpass kasper as 1st line left wing when we seen already the chemistry there. Zero chance it happens

Danielson will start on the 3rd. And as much as it be cool to land marner what happens to all the kids coming up?

Debrincat would 100% be moved at some point as they're would be no spots on the top 6 for nygaard, potentially our 1st this year, buchelnikov,lombardi,soderblom,finnie,kiiskinen... that's why I think yzerman targets someone with shorter term like kreider, bertuzzi
Kasper has already shown he can play 2C for this team, and it gives Danielson time to adjust to the NHL, just as they did with Kasper this year.

Prospects: Danielson will make the team out of camp, and play center. Kasper will play center too. Kasper will start as the #2, Danielson as the #3...and we'll see how they do. Mazur will start the yr in Detroit as well. If ASP adjusts quickly, he could be in Detroit by mid-season. If MBN has a really great yr, he could be in Detroit for a playoff push.

Forwards: Outbid the league for Marner. All you can do. Backup options are Tavares, then Marchand. I'd rather sign a great vet to a short contract (ala Kane) than overypay for another mediocre FA leftover (ala Copp/Compher).

Raymond---Larkin---*Marner/???*
DeBrincat---Kasper---Kane
Soder---Danielson---Mazur

4th: Whoever isn't bought out/traded of Compher, Copp, Tarasenko, Assmusen, Berggren, etc.

Defense: Need to sign Gavrikov (preferably) or Provorov. Shouldn't be too painful to be the high-bidder. Then if Ekblad's available for a bargain...why the hell not?

*Gavrikov/???* --- Seider
Edvinsson --- *Ekblad/???*
Chiarot --- Johansson (then ASP in for Chiarot)

..........

Seems like a lot to spend. But even if it's Marner at $14M, Marner+Gavrikov+Ekblad isn't even close to impossible cap-wise. Would just take some buyouts and pretty easy trades

If you're the GM of an NHL team, and the main part of your off-season "plan" is signing all the top free agents available, then you won't be an NHL GM for very long if you don't come up with a better plan.

If FA's happen to drop into your lap in July, because the money fits, the destination fits and the gut biome fits ... then that's great. Once you get that FA signed, you can hopefully alter your "plan" and readjust your roster accordingly.

Don’t forget Motte and Holl getting lots of PK time. Those guys are AHL caliber players.

Also Rasmussen on his own is not very good. His best hockey in a wings uniform happen when he’s playing on Copp’s wing as a grinder.

If Mazur comes back fully healthy from his injury then I think Rasmussen - Copp - Mazur has the potential to be a good defensive line. But Copp’s injury is one I worry about having long term implications. If he’s ineffective or still hurt to start the year then the Wings have a big roster hole to start the year.

He should be fully healed by the time camp starts. But, I don't think he will get his strength back, and I worry about his offense going forward. He could still be a great defensive player.

If you're the GM of an NHL team and you miss the playoffs for 8 straight years, you should be fired even if you were the best player to ever play for the team. At this point, the empty cupboard and Kenny's bad contracts are no longer valid excuses. He absolutely needs to make bold moves to avoid that 8th season.

Signing Marner for $14M makes a lot more sense than spending that money on Copp, Compher, and Tank. Stevie is failing because he doesn't make big moves, just keeps overpaying mediocre players.

Looks at the Caps, they made some really risky moves last summer and it seems to have paid off. PLD, Chych, TvR, and Sandin? Plus Roy who was a solid signing that Stevie should have done. The dude's from Canton MI, and lives in the area offseason. Couple of career backup goalies that are doing better than Stevie's career backup goalies. Not to mention Strome is doing a whole lot better than Copp, same UFA summer.

Exactly. We are spending the money anyway just in the worst possible way. I rather have one Porsche than 5 Hondas.

This team has a solid young core. It's time to add difference makers. They have depth to make trades and money to target FAs.

First option with the cap going way up is to hammer the FA market for top line options not vets on their last legs. The emphasis should be on scoring and toughness.

It's also time to give Cossa some games this next season. I'm not suggesting 40 games but 10 makes sense. If he isn't the next guy then detroit needs a steady goalie. What they have rolled out the last few years isn't good enough.

If the top FAs are resigned, then it's time to trade for big pieces.
