24/25 Waivers/Rumors/TDL Thread.

It doesn't make sense to buyout anyone if you aren't going to try and throw a playoff roster on the ice. I don't want to move the eggs around the carton like we did this summer.

Everyone will know July 1st if this team is being serious or just going through the motions.

You won't have to see the game-day roster, just look at who'll be competing for spots, and you'll gather enough information yourself. "IF" they bring in some boners for bottom roster spots, you've got your answer, if they bring in Mitch Marner and Ivan Provorov, then you can think about buying out a guy or two if rookies/younger players are better for those lower roster spots.

Like you get Mitch Marner/Provorov to play top minutes, buyout Tarasenko waive Holl or Gustafsson(or both), and let Watson/Shine play Tarasenko's 4th line role(or some rookie). Now Red Wings have a conversation going about playoffs.
By those metrics we will be going through the motions. Neither of those guys is signing in Detroit, let alone both of them.

The UFA market is garbage in terms of top 6/top pair talent. Anyone who has spent 30 seconds looking at the list knows that there are about five viable names and some standard depth players. Any material improvement will need to come from the trade market.

Then yzerman needs to use assets and swing a trade. No more excuses he’s had enough time being patient, drafting, making shitty FA signings that everyone just says who cares they are just plugging a hole. Enough is enough shit or gtfo, if it was my team he would have about 0 leash left with me

Who do you want to trade and what do you expect them to return? Please, no shit-stacking suggestions.

What you are saying make a lot of sense, but Yzerman already had some buyouts with Kostin , Aby, others , don't remember. I think he's a little bit psycho and do unpredictable things, he also has goalies fetish and not improving defense. He got lucky with Seider though

I mean there’s lots of guys at different levels. Obviously I don’t know who is and isn’t available. 1st off I would try my hardest to sign Marner and Gavrikov, after those 2 I like Boeser and Bennet up front and provorov/pionk on D. I would add duchene to this list as well.

As far as trades my 1st round pick this year (around 10th overall) would be firmly on the table. Top prospects for the right guy as well as obviously 2nd and 3rd round picks.

Potential forward options that I would give that pick up for:

Barzal
Svechnikov (maybe they would move him)
Kyle Conner (pipe dream)
Kaprizov (pipe dream)
Rossi
Pasta (would give up 2 unprotected 1’s ++)

Packages around 2nd’s and prospects or even 2026 protected (lottery protected)

Rust
Rakell
Crouse (buy low candidate)
Tippett (buy low candidate)
Schmaltz
Sharangovich (buy low candidate)

Back end

K Miller
York
Byram
Dobson (pipe dream)
Ferarro
R. Anderson

I’m sure there are more out there but I would not be afraid to give up our 1st this year or next year for a couple impact players. I think the depth has already started to come and will continue to come over next couple years replacing the copps,Comphers, Rass,Etc up front and the Holl, Petry,Gus, chiarot on the back end.

Bring back Kane and add an impact forward and impact D while dropping some dead weight and bringing in youth next year would honestly make us a fairly dangerous team and I honestly would see us being ahead of both Montreal and Ottawa and scaring the big 3 teams in our division. Goaltending would probably be the biggest worry for me in this case, I think our young guys could handle playing in the bottom 6/bottom 4D roles just fine and outperform what we have now significantly

Just my 2 cents

I’m 100% support making one of these moves. But I push back on shit or get off time. I think the window of making an aggressive addition just opened.

I’d be disappointed if something of substance doesn’t happen this summer but I also recognize desperation is a dangerous place. With that in mind I’m at peace with the aggressive addition occurring next season, TDL or even off season.

Yzerman should absolutely be in the market this summer but he should continue to play the longer term game. This works both ways, if you can land a long term piece, say, barzal, for a somewhat reasonable price, you do it. It also means being patient for the right move (good fit, not an overpay).

The reality is other teams are going to be in these markets and only a handful of guys are moved per window. It would be shortsighted to get into a bidding war with a team like the ducks or habs imo. To continue the previous example, sennecke zegras and 5th overall for barzal would be a package I wouldn’t be comfortable beating.

Again, id prefer to make a move this summer but I’m okay with any time over the next 18ish months

There’s absolutely no chance Anaheim would offer anything close to that. They wouldn’t even offer 5 for Barzal.

That’s why I think some of those lower cost guys (Rust, Rackell) give a 2nd + prospect raise the floor of the team while still waiting to strike but if you can’t. Doing nothing would be insane to me

Why not last summer? Right after we missed the playoffs on the last game of the season?

To me we already have 1 summer of pretty much completely whiffing on upgrading the roster. If we do that again this summer, I will start to have some pretty serious doubts.

Who is saying “do nothing”?

The point is don’t settle for a bad move if you can’t make a great move. By being patient you keep your powder dry for another opportunity. If you keep the pick and you draft another MBN/ASP you can use that to make an upgrade mid season/TDL.

Like I said, absolutely be in the trade/ufa markets. You gotta know that both are going to be highly competitive. With all the cap space across the league a lot of teams are going to be buying via free agency/trade. I anticipate a sellers market. There is nothing wrong with pouncing next season.

Getting too aggressive too quick is a classic rebuilding mistake. I’d argue teams shouldn’t be making those moves at the first sign of life.

Remember when the sens traded a haul including a top 10 pick for Debrincat only to miss the playoffs and trade debrincat for a 20th overall pick?

Id even argue allowing the team to take a natural step back was the better long term play. Kids like Edvinsson, Kasper, Soderblom and AlJo all got some awesome experience playing meaningful roles in a playoff race.

outside of debrincat/kane all of our “important” pieces are signed long term or have years and years of RFA control. This team has a great opportunity to be competitive moving forward. Insisting a move must happen this summer is panic buying and not a good move.

Again, im not saying we shouldn't be looking for upgrades, I just think that window only opened this year and we shouldn’t be overpaying in any trade market bidding wars.

So all you are willing to part with is our 2025 1st, 2026 1st, some 2nd rounders and some unnamed prospects?

I guess I should say my untouchables would be Raymond, Seider, Larkin, Cat, Ed, Kasper. Everything else would be on the table for me if it makes sense. Am I looking to move Danielson, ASP, MBN, Buch no not really but those are probably the ones that I am reluctant to move unless it’s a good aged long term piece. I’m not moving any of those guys for a Rust, Rackell, McCann type guy but if it was a Barzal/Svech type guy hell ya I’m willing to look at something with one of those guys in it

Im with you on Holl. He could be a fine AHL option. The only exception is if we can somehow make a big swing on Mitch Marner but that’s a pipe dream.

Maybe I’m naive. Even though he has been kind of dead weight, I don’t think Tarasenko’s value is that bad. He is a prime bounce back candidate imo. With the cap rising significantly the price will be minimal if negative at all. I’m also not entirely against keeping him as the aforementioned bounce back candidate.
Yeah buying out Holl seems useless. Bury him in the AHL for a year or as the 7th D, its just one year to ride out. Holl should only see the ice next year if 3 or more D get hurt

Tarasenko is a weird one, I didnt realise his Mom died this offseason. Maybe he comes back next year more focused and with a better offseason similar to how Chiarot did?

Only acceptable reason for holl to be around the team next season is to be the waterboy

Jeez and i thought my memory was a bit shaky. Tanks's dad died last summer, not mom.

Tank won the cup in June 24th and his dad died July 11th, Wings pre season camp started in September 18th. I think it's more than likely that he didn't get any real offseason training last summer.

I had the right train of thought lol. He definitely had a horrible off-season, I could see a Chiarot like bounce back to where he's actually useful next year

They do a ton of little things throughout the course of a game that help you win.

The fact that people are still shitting on Copp when it’s been pretty obvious we really miss having a player like that in our middle 6 over this recent stretch is hilarious.
No they don't

No because that doesn't exist.

You are way underdoing Copp and Compher and I am not even a fan of either really. You really just make yourself look bad and like you don't even have a clue suggesting either are anywhere near close to AHL players. You have seen Shine and Watson right? Those are AHL players.
I'd accept a Compher and Copp for Shine and Watson trade in 0.001 seconds

You're delusional. Berggren was a top AHL player, and he's not that useful in the NHL. A "good" AHLer would be even worse. Plus Ras and Holl were realgud AHLers. If you don't understand the level difference between the AHL and NHL, just look at Burger stats.

Motte is an AHLer, Tank's effort level won't do much in any league, and Gus apparently left his brain on a bus somewhere.

Copp/Compher? I'll take them over a good AHLer, though I absolutely hate both contracts. I'd like them much better at half the cost.
I'd absolutely take two AHL'ers who played D and fought over Copp and Compher....even if contracts were a non-factor

You are out to lunch, it’s no surprise we have gone downhill after losing Copp
LMAO..copp is hot garbage. Just cause he decided to show up for 2 or 3 weeks and win some face offs player better defense. Don't sit their and tell us he's the difference between making the playoffs or not. I want that idiot gone. But know it won't happen. Garbage player garbage contract

I like to see them bring up Lombardi, Danielson , Mazur and ASP. Wave Holl, trade Rasmussen. Kids needs to get evaluated .

Ed, Raymond and Seider should be stepping into their prime , should help to be better .
If Tarasenko the same next season , just waive him.

Okay bud whatever you say. I’m sure a bottom 6 filled with Austin Watson’s would be your wet dream
