24/25 Waivers/Rumors/TDL Thread.

Dude said "if the news we got is true". No need to go at him when the actual opening night roster has been bad for 3 years straight. It's not a stretch to think it'll happen again lmao.

I don't get it. So many other teams manage to extract massive value out of trades and waiver wire/offer sheet/etc pickups. Holloway/Broberg, Suzuki trade, Fabbro, ugh.

I'm just praying every night that Buch in fact does become Panarin 2.0.
Because the tweet has zero information. It’s absolutely clickbaiting. Especially because it requires the Red wings making some definitive statement about next season, which is highly unlikely.

Fans will likely be upset about something with the opening night roster so then they can pretend they were right.

What 4 are you exactly talking about. It’s laughable that you think Copp and Compher are AHL level players. I get you don’t like them but come on
Why are Copp or Compher NHL players??

-They can't kill penalties.
-They aren't physical, at all.
-Neither are scoring threats.
-Neither seems to have exercised in the summer since getting their deals.

They both bring nothing. Nothing. 50 guys in the AHL and Europe who could bring 3 of those 4 things.

Just wasted minutes.

..........

The other two were Holl and Gustafsson. Neither of whom would even be top-pair AHL players on AHL playoff teams.

Yeah sorry I also consider myself a pessimist around these parts but this is just delusional. Andrew Copp has played 700 NHL games. To suggest he’s an AHL vet is simply jsut objectively false.

Unfortunately AHLers can't even provide the ~10 goals and ~20 assists that Copp/Compher provide. The best that guys like Motte and Watson can do is 15 points in a career year. One of the reasons why the team is sucking is because Copp is injured. He was playing 2C, though we all know he's 3C at best.

Mind you, I hate both players, but even I will acknowledge that they are better than having AHLers on the team. Shine has 1 assist in 9 games.

Would replacing Copp/Compher w 2 AHL vets who get you ~5 goals and ~10 assists while being strong penalty killers and make-you-think-twice physical presences make this team better??

Absolutely. Copp/Compher aren't even as useful as good AHL'ers.

rAss, Berggren, Tarasenko, Holl, Gus, Motte (Fischer, Veleno, Lyon) all in the exact same boat.

We're essentially 10 NHL players and a (bad) AHL team.

Buffalo has 4 solid RFAs this year.

McCloud
Peterka
Quinn
Byram

Byram and Peterka aren’t getting less than 6 mil a season so I’d advise them but I think one of McCloud and Quinn can be stolen for 4.5 and only cost a second rounder. That would be great value.

They do a ton of little things throughout the course of a game that help you win.

The fact that people are still shitting on Copp when it’s been pretty obvious we really miss having a player like that in our middle 6 over this recent stretch is hilarious.

No because that doesn't exist.

You are way underdoing Copp and Compher and I am not even a fan of either really. You really just make yourself look bad and like you don't even have a clue suggesting either are anywhere near close to AHL players. You have seen Shine and Watson right? Those are AHL players.

Agreed. People often underestimate the talent gap between even a mediocre NHL player and an AHLer.

If Copp and Compher could be easily replaced by an AHL player, they would've been.

You don't think Buffalo matches at $4.5? I would honestly go bigger at Byram if we are offer sheeting a Sabre (which I am totally on board with)

I think the concern in Buffalo is that they'll cap limit themselves a bit and have a hard time matching whatever RFA are unsigned longest. I assume Byram would be a priority for them but maybe he'll just refuse to sign.

Think sabres match . I haven’t looked at any teams cap numbers but I don’t know if there’s a team out there like edm were. Broberg woulda been nice .... doubt it happens but if leafs sign Tavares and marner before knies he could be an option? Doubt they’re dumb enough to not sign him first

Ducks could be a good partner to trade with. Underachieving team with loads of kids

I don't think Buffalo lets McLeod go for 4.5.

You're delusional. Berggren was a top AHL player, and he's not that useful in the NHL. A "good" AHLer would be even worse. Plus Ras and Holl were realgud AHLers. If you don't understand the level difference between the AHL and NHL, just look at Burger stats.

Motte is an AHLer, Tank's effort level won't do much in any league, and Gus apparently left his brain on a bus somewhere.

Copp/Compher? I'll take them over a good AHLer, though I absolutely hate both contracts. I'd like them much better at half the cost.

Why?

13 Gp with 1 assist for Ottawa.
24 goals last year, 17 before being traded this year. He plays a heavy game that can probably be moved all over the top9 to compliment other lines. If he has a rough go in Ottawa and it lowers his asking price, I can definitely see the appeal.

If we want to be harder to play against, this is the sort of guy we'd look to add.

Anyone think samsoskevich can be a target for an offer sheet? I see what happened to Holloway and I’m thinking on the right team he can have a 50-60 pt season

We have raymond on the right side and nygaard coming soon + lombardi etc... so I don’t think he’d be a good fit for us even if I’m tempted but Florida will have cap issues trying to resign Bennett, ekblad etc..

Someone’s taking a shot at him right? I’d try and get rid of Rodrigues if I’m Florida and keeping him but I can see him being one of the targets this summer

Admittedly I know next to nothing about Zetterlund but a 13 game sample with a new team isn't a great window into who a player is.
Marco agrees, lol. Coaching, usage, and linemates all have huge impact on scoring.

Zetterlund was basically a 20/20/40 player in SJ on a shitty team, and he seems to be playing a reduced role looking at his ice time. I have not watched him play for OTT though.

The problem is, this is his last RFA year. If you trade for him, what does the next contract look like? Based on OTT or SJS stats?

That's where good pro scouting comes in. Which we don't have.

I don't see Ottawa letting zetterlund walk though
