Post-Game Talk: GAME 77 - BRUINS WIN, BRUINS WIN - BRUINS 5 Whalercanes 1

I was out and about yesterday/last night so missed the game, but I’m sure this was a much needed confidence boost for the guys. Especially happy for Pasta.

It did not feel like an elimination night.

David Pastrnak scored a hat trick and he and Morgan Geekie collected 5 points each, and Jeremy Swayman put on a goaltending clinic as the Bruins snapped a 10-game losing streak with an 5-1 win over the Hurricanes Saturday night at TD Garden.

The performances of Pastrnak, Geekie, and Swayman softened the blow of the 31-37-9 Bruins being officially pushed out of the postseason picture for the first time in nine years.
The Bruins consistently gave the crowd reasons to cheer, something that’s been missing too often this season.

“Yeah, I mean it’s fun to win in a hockey game, see the Garden happy and cheerful and being loud. Great support tonight. So, it was fun,” said Pastrnak, whose three goals allowed him to hit the 40-mark for the fifth time in his career. “Obviously it’s been a tough couple of weeks. So, proud of the group, the effort, the block shots, and the commitment to win today was there, so fun one tonight.”

He joined franchise legends Phil Esposito, who did it seven times from 1968-75, and Rick Middleton, who had five straight such seasons from 1979-84.

Pastrnak set up Boston’s first two goals before scoring three straight to give him 94 points on the season. He is the fifth Bruin to record three straight 90-plus point seasons, joining Esposito, Bobby Orr, Middleton, and Barry Pederson.

Swayman finished with 39 saves to snap a seven-game skid and earn his 100th career win.

Swayman made several five-bell saves during the period, none better than his sprawling stop on former Bruin Taylor Hall’s doorstep backhander.

The Bruins increased their lead to 3-0 thanks to more sorcery from Pastrnak.

Boston’s leading scorer kicked a puck to his stick in front of Andersen, spun around the goalie’s right, and then zapped a shot between goalie and the near post to give Boston a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes.

Pastrnak added Nos. 39 and 40 in the third period to boost Boston’s lead to 5-0 and send the chapeaus flying. It was his 19th career hat trick and his first natural trick.

Carolina’s Justin Robidas scored his first NHL goal with 55 seconds to go to spoil Swayman’s shutout bid.

Swayman was buoyed by the passion of the fans.

“They stick with us through the ups and downs and that’s something that I’ll always keep close to my heart and even through the tough days,” he said. “I’ve just gotten endless support walking the streets, seeing people out in public and knowing that they have belief in us as a group ... [it] completely shuts out all the noise around us and again, to make them happy and to see a home game like this go through for these fans, it’s addicting and I couldn’t be more grateful and I’m so thankful for all the fans and this community for supporting us.”

Much respect to Koepke for going down to block that screamer of a slapshot from Burns from 5ft away.....with a 4-0 lead.

He might not be the most talented player on the ice, but you can't question his heart.
He digs in the corners and does little things that don't always show upon the score board but help the team.

It all depends on when he retires but Pasta has a good shot at 700 goals if he stays healthy and productive into his mid 30's.

Reason #1001 why Sacco (and Leach?) must go - in a 5 - 0 game, with a "feel good" shutout on the line that would have been a nice and rare moment for the Bruins, the fans and especially Jeremy Swayman this year, Sacco and Leach have Lohrei and Ian Mitchell on the ice in the final minute. Goal Carolina ..

I was more impressed with his politeness and manners than his game

..but did not look out of place on the ice either
I wasn't able to watch the game live but when I got up at (I believe it was 1am when they replayed it) I watched some of it then. They were talking about Minten and his interview between periods 1 & 2 so I went back to see it but NESN cuts out the intermission stuff to cut down the game replay time so of course it got cut. Ya know, NESN has so much more great crap to broadcast like "Charlie Moore Ties His Shoes."

He called Raycroft 'Andrew' in his interview, and the Boys in the studio were teasing Razor a bit

It's good to see a yute show respect for his elders

Didn't get to see this one, but way to go Pasta on the natural hat trick. They were all beauties as well. Oughtta get extra for style points!

From the highlights it looks like Swayman had another solid outing. That's two in a row.
