Also why are we acting like Karlsson will refuse to work with the Penguins to find a trade destination? The Penguins suck and he wants to win a championship. He’s obviously not going to green light literally any team out of the goodness of his heart, but I don’t see any way that he’s going to handicap the Penguins to have to keep him.

He was willing to allow a trade to Carolina when he was traded to the Penguins. Just do Gostisbehere and one of their 2026 1sts and I’m totally fine with that return for him.

Hopefully Dubas waits for teams that missed out on big UFA signings to get desperate and willing to be fleeced.

Should’ve happened last trade deadline but whatever.

It's weird that the league has so few sellers, it's the perfect setup for this team to really drive returns. such a big jump in the cap, and having 2 guys signed for 3 years at 5ish million a year that are 30 goal scorers is really fortunate. If Dubas is going to make moves for solid returns to speed up a rebuild, you really couldn't ask for a better environment to do so.

Because they’re aren’t many teams like the Penguins at this point. Most teams aren’t in a rebuilding stage like the Penguins, and the ones that are have been rebuilding for a good 3+ years and are now trying to turn it around. The Penguins have an old as hell core and a bad team, there aren’t many of those at all in the NHL right now.

Dubas is clear here. High end prospects are the return for any deals. Or higher end players like Byram will be aggressively pursued. If Dubas can land Hague. and have a quality young center prospect and winger or D if Rangers give up the pick and still have deals to make for Rust, Karlsson and or Rakell that is a great position to be in. Or get Hague and trade the above at the TDL.

Ah yes, saw there was a "Pens are sellers!" thread on the main boards and said to myself, before even clicking in, this is going to be 45% 'Karlsson/Rakell sucks negative value!!!11" and 45% "Crosby to COL/MON!" Then maybe like, 9% actual discussion with the remaining 1% being random Toronto people with snide Dubas comments.

It’s so stupid because those people pretty much solely say “Crosby is too competitive to want to be on a rebuilding team!” to justify it, even though it makes zero sense from any other aspect.

The Habs suck and aren’t a contender, so Crosby leaving for Montreal makes no sense. The Avs are a contender and have MacKinnon, but they have completely drained their assets and simply cannot offer a package that would be enough to acquire Crosby. If Crosby was going to Colorado, it would almost assuredly be as a UFA at this point, which is not possible with him signing a new contract. The Avs also just paid Brock Nelson $7.5 million a year.

It’s a bunch of casuals who want to see Crosby traded ignoring all of the reasons it makes no sense at all for Crosby to be traded. He doesn’t want to be traded, the Penguins don’t want to trade him and the only realistic option (Colorado) doesn’t have the currency to get him.

But hey, I guess that's what stupid hockey message boards are for.

The argument that always gets me is "Crosby is so awesome, he deserves another shot at a cup!" and my thought is, no...he deserves to go out on his career the way he wants to. If that means another shot on another team I'd not begrudge that. But if it means he wants to stay here and deal with whatever the Pens are, then why don't you respect him enough to accept that? Also, **** Paul Bissonnette. Not just because of this topic but in a general application.

We’re sellers who won’t sell any of our good players. I’m sure we teams are just frothing at the mouth for Kevin Hayes.

If Crosby wanted more hardware hes a big boy and wouldve signed elsewhere. People saying that arent concerned with his legacy, they just want to rub it in people’s faces that he didn’t stay with the Pens.

I still think Karlsson to Carolina makes too much sense to not happen. The only concern I have is that the Canes are stingy with assets, beyond that it’s a perfect fit in pretty much every aspect.

Trade history? You have that with Guentzel to Carolina. Need? Carolina absolutely needs a top flight OFD and a 5v5 producer. Ability to shelter Karlsson? Slavin is arguably the best DFD in hockey today. Money? Carolina is a cheap organization that would appreciate Karlsson being owed much less than his cap hit. Assets? They just got 2 1sts for Rantanen at the deadline.

Like I keep posting, Karlsson at $6 million for Gostisbehere and the later of their 2026 1sts is a deal that makes a bunch of sense for both teams. It’s just a question of whether Carolina will actually pay it, with their track record of being cheap.

$8Mx8 for your 2C, but your top defenseman you want to take a pay cut below $7M? I guess that says something about his injury history and how they feel he will age.

Erik Karlsson YOU are a Florida Panther. With some retention that is.

No. Just no. :biglaugh:
Florida has two 2nds and one 3rd in the next 3 drafts. Zero 1sts.
But another Penguins' D makes something that starts with a 6. Not to mention tons of vet leadership and playoff tested experience.

Ekbald isn’t a bad player but in no way lived up to his draft position or that contract.

Tax haven strikes again, that contract would be at least 10 million elsewhere.
Taxes have little to nothing to do with it. Taxes are just a simple-minded excuse for fans who don't want to actually look at the reason's players sign places. If he does sign 8x8 it'll be because he wants to win and stay with the team that he's had his most success.

Did the same shit with Lemieux in the 90s. It’s bizarre.

Multiple grains of salt.

That'd be about $11 million left for 3 D, 1 F and backup tender and Samoskevich's RFA contract.

They can have Ned for a pick. They should put most of that money for a 2nd pairing dmen and Samoskevich. Going to be very deep again next year

Not saying thats the main reason, but it does figure into the overall amount that can be offered.

Sell, sell, sell.
Rakell to Minny for Rossi and something.
Rust and Jarry to Det for bad contract (Compher?), Danielson, pick.
EK to Columbus w/o retention for whatever.
Picks to TB for Howard.
