I mean I don’t think we’re going to get much back, even with heavy retention, or have teams interested in taking EK…but if we did and Dubas nixed a trade bc of that trip to Sweden, whether EK or Rakell, that should be grounds for immediate termination of his GM card lol
RD are always in demand. It'll be a matter of how much Dubas retains and how many teams Karlsson will waive for. Jones got a solid return with only being willing to waive for three teams at most.

One thing we need to keep in mind here: Pittsburgh is playing Nashville in Sweden to open the regular season in 2025-26.

The Preds are not going to trade Filip Forsberg. Erik Karlsson is the main draw for that game. And if it comes down to trading Rust or Rickard Rakell, perhaps the default option is to trade Rust.

I highly doubt the Penguins are going to Sweden with Sebastian Aho or some other token Swede. Filip Hallander is not exactly a draw.

I know people will say this is not a factor at all but everything is a factor when it comes to pro sports.

Hard disagree with this post. The Pens are a business. They'll do what makes sense for the team and not fans in Sweden.

And this talking point kinda reminds me of the "Pens won't be changing to yellow from Vegas gold because the seats at Consol Energy Center are Vegas gold" discussions.

McKenna, here we come! lol…

AND...I think we have several players - both top 6 and bottom 6 that teams would be interested in.

Top 6 - Rakell, maaaybe Rust if they are truly willing to trade him (doubtful)
Bottom 6 - Heinen, Hayes, Acciari, Lizotte, Dewar's rights, maybe even a guy like Puustinen.
Dmen - Karlsson or even Graves if they are feeling risky.

Get after Dubas! Cook!

I think Karlsson is a divisive player and there is a subset, maybe the majority, or teams that would not take him for free. But there are enough teams that believe in Karlsson that Dubas could get a bidding war going by retaining half.

We can just trade him to Nashville for 5OV. Boom. Easy. Toss in Hallander if they want.

We can trade them Rakell for next year's 1st, too.

Anyone else? Let's turn this into Swedes vs. NA and really get the crowd riled up.

Teams love bailing the Rangers out of bad contracts.
I think part of it is that the Rangers are a) willing to move on from players and b) willing to take nothing back.

If Keider was a Penguin, they'd talk themselves into him just having a down year because he put up 75 points the year prior. So they wouldn't even entertain a trade let alone for a meh prospect and a mid-round pick.

There's so much parity in the league right now too that there's not a huge difference between some of those WC slots and 9/10/11/12-ish. I think a lot of teams will be wanting to improve. My preference is to sell as much as we can then replace via FA. Then turn and sell again at the TDL.

I maybe even wonder if Jarry would be a target of someone this summer. Graves is a long shot but the goalie market is as bleak as ever. Jarry MIGHT intrigue SOMEONE.

I think it makes a ton of sense to sell Rakell or Rust and trade for Maccelli to replace him. It fits what Muse said about building players up to their potential, since you’re buying super low on Maccelli right now.

I think they should be doing the same thing with Karlsson, sell him and bring in a buy low young guy to replace him. Timmins makes a lot of sense as an add in that sense but I’d like a guy a bit more proven in 2nd pair usage.

The best case scenario is you can sell Rakell to Utah and get Maccelli back as a part of the return. Maccelli and Lamoureux for Rakell is the deal I’ve thrown out a bunch, Kesselring would be a dream but I’m wildly skeptical you could get him for Rakell.

Love hearing we're true sellers. Trade everyone. Tank. Taaaaank!

Surely we can convince Rangers to take Acciari for a pick or a random throw-a-dart-at-a-board prospect

I'm surprised to hear Rust's name out there but given his lack of trade protection I am updating my prediction to Rust for Byram on July 1. Lock it in.

Rust for Lafrenière would be interesting...

On top of everything else I forgot that Rust was 33 years old.

Sometimes people talk about him like he's gonna be this transitional piece between eras but he's already right at the point where players start to decline.
Dude. That's not how you pump tires.

You better write a fluff piece now how he's super helpful to the young guys and a core pillar.. That the Pens are so lucky to have him.

And wait for the trade offers to start coming in over the phone.

Either of them to SLC would make sense and Maccelli is a good return but I think I'd rather angle something for the 4OV.

Rakell+11ov for 4ov would suit our needs a bit better.

Whether we want to acknowledge it or not, I think Rust has a ton of value around the league. Good contract, good production, can do well ES, PK, and PP, and he seems like he's a really good locker room guy. At this point, he can be a leader virtually anywhere. Maybe not a captain but a fresh new voice for sure.

In my head, Detroit is a prime location for him right now. Yzerman should be foaming at the mouth for a guy like Rust. Raymond-Larkin-Rust could be a legit force.

Yeah I bet the Penguins give one gigantic f*** about that
