The work below was done by a poster on another site, but it just goes to show you how hurtful winning this late in the season is…go for the draft pick! Lol

Yep. I don't want to be a loser long but I'd like to take a couple years to get that high pick and then try and win afterwards.

This 4 game win streak is not good for us.

At the deadline I said I wouldn't move Rakell unless a top tier young player was coming back, and I'm sticking to that requirement as a trade I'd have for him. I know this team needs as many draft picks as possible to get the next franchise pieces it needs, but I also think late 1sts have low hit rates for giving that and I'd demand a young prospect who looks to be on a better trajectory than just a late 1st.

This team needs quality more than anything at this point. I know you could hit on a quality prospect by getting 2 late 1sts for Rakell, but I'd much rather demand a top young asset and get fewer assets but a better individual asset. Even if the value is less, I'd want to do Clarke from LA for Rakell before I'd do 2 LA 1sts for Rakell.
I saw some pieces that said Dubas was asking for a team's top prospect + 2 1sts for Rakell at the TDL. Pretty ridiculous price tag so it makes sense that it wasn't matched but all things considered, it may have taken that to get him out of Pittsburgh. My hope would be Dubas walks that down a bit this off-season. Might be something like Clarke+1st+3rd or B prospect like Fernstrom. I imagine the price tags will be set right after the draft and be sky high after the first day or two of free agency. Once teams see you're paying a guy like Boeser $7mil for 7 years, Rakell's $5mil x 3 years after scoring 35 is gonna be attractive. A team would likely have drafted a shiny new toy in the draft so there may be more willingness to give up a top prospect from 24 or 23.
Ah, yes, Josh Yohe, the Penguins have had such a splendid winning culture over the last few seasons that they shouldn't do anything to jeopardize it.

I get the scorched earth rebuild are risky but winning culture? In this f***ing team? Come on. It's isn't 2017 anymore, or even 2021.

But they don't play hard every night. not even close. No team does, mind you, but the Pens one of the worst offenders in the "didn't mentally show up for the game" category.

Yeah, a few years of playing with Crosby and other good players will do a lot of good for our prospects. Doesn't mean we have to pretend that the team's culture right now is anything better than a bona fide laughing stock.
The fact that they believe they have a winning culture based on 2017 but have gone out in the first round or missed completely is so troubling. It would be far less cringy if they said "we have a "want to win" culture". The "we have a culture of winning in this organization" just SCREAMS arrogance and detachment from reality.
M Pett is having a rough go of it with the Canucks. That was highway robbery getting a 1st for him and DOC.

Wish we could have done the same with Raks but I see why they kept him.
Given the prices at the TDL, a 1st+Fernstrom was pretty good for Pettersson and DOC. Then you factor in that we took Heinen and Desharnais from them, the price was pretty appropriate. Still can't believe we were able to dump Desharnais as easy as we were.

I saw some pieces that said Dubas was asking for a team's top prospect + 2 1sts for Rakell at the TDL.
Where have you seen that?

The only price I've seen mentioned (which, granted, was from Yohe), said, "a first-round pick, a very good prospect and a good, young NHL player". Which is still quite high, but isn't quite as restrictive on the return as requiring a team's top prospect or two firsts would be.

The top 10 are 1, 2, 28, 1, 17, 25, 4, 2, 162, 4.

6 out of 10 in the top 4. And Kuch and Pasta would be picked higher if they were drafted today. Need them top 5's minimum. Kyle Connor and Jesper Bratt also aren't leading an offense to the cup.

People are making shit up. What you've attributed to Yohe is the standard 1st ask for a star player and probably what Dubas asked for and they usually settle for 2 of the 3.

It's reasonable to expect one of mid 1st/young middle 6er/legit prospect, plus one of low 1st/B-prospect. If they wanna dump stuff our way they can pay for it.

Also, Rakell is still 31 and will be at the end of the regular season. Whoever trades for him would get his whole 32, 33 and 34 year old seasons at 5M or less. People just straight up lying about his age around here. And acting like this year is the aberration as if last year we didn't all watch him getting screwed around by Sully while averaging under 17 minutes a night. Same people I'm sure blame Malkin for not being able to produce like Sid does, as if he's not having to play with scrubs.

So, in summary, we want picks in the 6-15 range since there's more of them in the top 100. ;):partytime:

Rakell will be more valuable with that AAV and no real free agents with that production. Even Marner if offered 13 or ore as a FA if he is on the market. that make RR so valuable as does Rust. Dubas knows teams are just able to get that level of production at 5 million AAV with salary going down. I think Karlsson would waive for Ottawa but my ideal trade is Karlsson and pick say 7 for what they end up with top 4 and young center drafted last year.

Someone on Reddit had said that a Seguin buyout would be useful for the Stars and I checked but sort of took them at their word and read the wrong row on PuckPedia. A Seguin buyout would not be useful for the Stars. A trade or offer sheet for Bourque may be possible after all.
That should have happened this last TDL.

An offer they can't refuse.

Moore, 2 of Clarke/Turcotte/Spence/Helenius and like Reilly Walsh. a Masshole for Sully to drool over.
Unfortunately, Rob Blake did not make a panic trade at the trade deadline. He barely made any trade at the trade deadline.

Yeah, he went with the cheap maybe we can make Kuzmenko good again.

When they get dropped by the Oilers for the 3rd/4th time in a row he might actually make a move that moves the needle.

Pretty sure they could have had a '26 1st and Clarke. We also would have gotten Trevor Moore to even out the cap as well as being a solid player for the present. We'd add a mid rounder or the equivalent. Either Beau or a '25 3rd, maybe both. I would have done that deal. Apparently Dubas was concerned about Clarke being a guy that could be counted on defensively. Good offensively but lacks discipline and attention to detail in his end. Regardless, they should have made that deal.

Sullivan is not here because FSG thinks they’ll have to eat his contract…he’ll be hired somewhere else I’m sure they agree…they actually think he’s a 2-3 coach lol and are influenced by what Sid and the core think, and they love him…that’s why he’s still here…any other team would have fired his ass by now, even the cheap ones lol
No they wouldn’t. See Jon Cooper

He didn't want picks, just NHL ready players. So, what I posted is pretty much what he was looking for.

Good roster player and 2 top prospects. Give or take depending on if more was added to the deal.

Friendly reminder that Schenn was only traded because he requested to be moved when we got him from Nashville. Dubas had every intention of keeping him. Bold and brilliant, indeed.

I will give Dubas credit when he deserves it. So far, he has failed upwards as an NHL GM.

Selling off vets for picks and prospects is the easy part. Building the NHL team back from that is where it takes ability. If he does that, I’ll give him his due. Until then, I’ll treat him with the same reverence every other GM has gotten here before they start doing good things.
Then you’d be wrong yet again. Bro, this is just a bad take all around. Selling off contracts in a cap league is incredibly complex & time consuming. You think Dubas just got up on trade deadline day & started making swaps? It takes months of scouting & careful cap management. So no, there is no “easy part”.
