He's a year older than Pickering. Fair to say a 22 year old defenseman isn't anywhere close to a finished product, but he already has dynamic offense.

Yeah and with Clarke, I just think you need him to be fine defensively, not anything amazing. If these guys pan out, I figure he'd be playing with Pickering long-term and Pickering would be the DFD for that pair. Would be similar to Pettersson-Karlsson in makeup, just a question of how talented the pair would be.

I have my doubts that Clarke becomes top pair caliber, but he does seem like a safe bet to be at least top-4 caliber. Their RD would be set up really nice for the long term with Clarke and Brunicke as 2 of their best young players.

Jake's situation was pretty uniquely f***ed with reports all year about the guy intent on testing FA. /shrug

Pretty happy with what Dubas managed for a 2nd pairing guy in Petts and a borderline AHL loser in DOC. Maybe the Rakell trade is a pleasant surprise.

But there's definitely the worry that you're right.

From what I've heard LA wants Rakell bad.

Maybe Dubas pulls another rabbit out of his hat here ala Petts.

Clarke would get the same exact treatment as LA here though under Sullivan.

There'll be top-six openings. You can pay him close to minimum, play him in the top-six and trade him at the next deadline for a pretty good pick.
That is an excellent use of cap in the Pens situation. Even if he only netted a 3rd, that's still smart spending.

Get Moore and Clarke for Rakell and I'd be pretty satisfied. Don't even need the pick there.

I don't watch enough LA to have an opinion on Moore. If he's a live guy that can be Bunting level or better sure. If he's empty salary I want more than just a good young player.

1st + Clarke, don't really care about Moore tbh. That dude's just a play and flip project imo, and I think that's destined for failure in this system and under this coach. The 1st and young player are the important parts, regardless of whether it's LA or not.

Yep, Gourde has a reputation (rightly) as a gamer and there is the familiarity with Tampa there. He's a 3rd liner now but if he provides energy and scores timely goals then that's worth it to Tampa.
