Glass probably won't even be in the organization next year, let alone being talked about as a 2C replacement for Malkin.
Grzelcyk will assuredly be gone at the deadline and the team has no confidence in Graves. They can let Pickering play the rest of the year in WBS with POJ, Kolya and Heinola as their LD.
I'm not against it necessarily but I think I more question what Heinola provides us that POJ, Graves, Shea, JSI, etc don't. It's not a bad suggestion, I'm just more in the "but why?" phase.
I disagree. I think they retain Glass. We can discuss placement more, obviously, but I don't think they let him go. To take it a step further, I don't think they let him go in-season. If Pono comes in and blows everyone away and they think he's expendable, I think we are looking at an off-season move. By that time, Heinola will be nearly irrelevant to the plans.
I think a middle-aged middle 6 center has more worth than a #7/8. In addition to not wanting to trade a center for a depth dman from a principle standpoint, I think the value is off too purely from a positional standpoint.
Now if we're talking Acciari, go for it. I think there's give and take there that makes sense.
What makes Glass a middle-6 center? He has 13 points in 44 games this year (which is basically identical to what he produced last year) and has a career pace of 30 points per 82 games. He's a fringe 3C/4C, which is why he's redundant with Ponomarev (and Broz, for that matter) coming up and Lizotte already on the roster.
The point of the swap would be trading from a position of strength (young bottom-6 centers) for a position of weakness (young NHL ready LD). Which you can argue this trade doesn't necessarily fit, but I'd pretty firmly disagree. They have Glass, Lizotte, Ponomarev, Broz and Poulin as viable young bottom-6 centers (either now or in the future) and only Kolya and Pickering as young NHL ready LD.
Glass isn't a problem or anything. But he's kinda... not very good at all. The idea of him as a middle six center even on this trash heap of a team is pretty gross.
He's a good PKer and does OK on the forecheck I guess? I dunno most nights he seems like one of these guys that sorta just... exists... out there.
Yeah I don't dislike Glass, but he's a bland bottom-6 center that's probably a 4C on a good team. I think his role can definitely be filled by Lizotte and probably filled with Ponomarev and possibly Poulin too.
That's why the Glass for Heinola swap makes the most sense to me. They have far more passable young bottom-6 centers than they have passable young NHL LD.
I don't know, I'm not really seeing it with Pono. But I am happy with giving him a shot. Prove me wrong.
Heck, I'd re-sign Glass for cheap too.
Whatever. What do I care.
I have this same thought with Ponomarev but I'm waiting for a larger sample size before I rush to judgement.
I like Glass for his fit as a RH center. Yes I am partial to RH centers and like the O'Brien center in the draft at say 9th. Depending on what Karlsson returns and I prefer Rust heading out. Pens can't do an offer sheet if it includes a second this year. So, if I am Dubas I get a RW back for Karlsson and a nice pick. Add in the Petts pick and potential pick for rust and Dubas now has more ammunition to go after a younger winger.

Noah Dobson might be on his way out of Long Island, just swapped agents to the same group that represents McDavid, Matthews, Werenski and Josi so I'm assuming he's gearing up for a RFA contract Lou's gonna hate.
Wonder if he's worth pursuing. Just turned 25. Kinda sucks shit defensively though apparently he's improved there a bit this season, and has shown he's capable of some impressive numbers from the blueline. Might be a good long term option if/when they deal EK.
I don't think we have a single thing that would interest the Islanders. Not unless we're giving away 1st round picks again.
He seems to be really good at possessing the puck and making one good offensive play that makes you think he could be something every 5 games.
Glass as the penguins future second line centerman!![]()
For a young player like Dobson they would.
Dobson is 25. Giving away a top ten 1st for him doesn’t make much sense to me. Especially if we have Letang and EK.
