I really dont get what Rutherford and co and are doing in Vancouver. They let the Pettersson/Miller stuff reach the boiling point and now one of their main trade partners in Carolina is out. Their options now are to take a trash package from the Rags or keep the toxic room intact.
I don't buy that the team's core problem is that relationship.
Myers, Soucy, Forbort, Juulsen and Desharnais have been below average to awful.
Demko is an .867 since coming back.
Garland, Joshua, Hoglander, Raty poor with the scoring.

EK65 to the avs for some random garbage?
Source?

It sucks to trade a core piece like Rantanen but Necas is about as good a replacement as you could hope for--with picks thrown in for the Avs. MacKinnon-Rantanen was a monstrous combo, but I don't think MacKinnon-Necas is gonna be a huge drop off*. Plus Necas is two years younger and on a solid deal for those two years.

-edit- *If Necas keeps up the way he's been playing this season. Obviously Rantanen's past few years blows Necas' outta the water, but Necas has taken a big step this year and hasn't played with anyone close to MacKinnon before.

Still blown away JR didn't pony up for Jake last season. That was the Canucks year to strike imo. Even if you thought Jake was gonna walk, you take that chance 11 times outta 10. Jake very likely gets that team to the SCF.
Yeah and look where it got them. I never understood JR becoming so gun shy after 2016. He went out and acquired the big fish in Kessel which completely changed the dynamic of the team. After that point he just kept bleeding assets for garbage like Brassard, Zucker, Kapanen etc. Meanwhile all-stars like Stone got traded for pennies.

Now he's doing the same shit in Vancouver. Really bizarre.

It takes two to tango.

Rutherford has been a gun slinger since he joined the league. The man acquired Brendan Shannan in the Summer of 1995 for Chris Pronger and then traded Shannan away in October the following season for Paul Coffee, who he then flipped 3 months later.

Dude can not sit on his hands. He is always willing to throw things at the wall and see what sticks.

The difference in Vancouver is he's not the GM and the owner meddles from all accounts.

The only teams Dubas has scouted in person are games involving the Habs or Sabres. In the past few weeks the only games outside the Pens he's been going to are the World Junior and AHL. Most recently, a game between the Canucks/Habs AHL affiliates.

Is E Pettersson in the AHL or up with the Canucks? What about Mynio?

Honestly, Hoglander plus one of them still makes a ton of sense.

Reactions: Nfumass and Pens x
Serevelli and Johnston mentioned that Colorado has been in talks for other moves. The Sid stuff is just coming from morons like Jimmy Murphy
To be fair, he didn't mention Sid. He said Nate could be getting a friend from Nova Scotia. Marchand rumored to be on the block. He's from Halifax like Nate.

Odd trade for Colorado. Still in contention for a cup you would figure they would try to send cap out and get him re-signed.

Avs knew the asking price was more than they wanted to pay. Canes got a player that to me is better than Jake and cost them Necas and a pick. They also know he want 14 million per and I have to think they will sign him. Sid going nowhere this year and with cap space after moves to get younger ect, it still comes down to development and talent in the system. Pens are moving to a rebuild adding younger talent. But will not tank as adding picks from trades can off them assets to move up in the draft. Dubas moves Petts at the TDL for a nice pick. then to me Rust, Karlsson with retention are traded. Next draft Pens probably have a top 10 pick going into the lottery. Add in picks from Petts, Rust and Karlsson and Dubas will be a busy guy adding to the farm.

I don't know if Colorado acquired Necas to play C or RW, but if they acquired him to play C, I'd be calling up offering Rakell for Mittelstadt and see what kind of futures Colorado would be willing to add on top of him to make that deal.

It's probably some lame shit like the two of them meeting in Pittsburgh to work a Pens game or something.

-edit- Pens still out West for a few games. I dunno. Hopefully it's something cool like Petts and Rakell for a 1st, 2nd and good prospect.
I'm praying it's not something stupid like Rak and MP for JT. :scared:

Nothing is happening with the Pens…Weekes’ tweet was a play on the constant rumors Sid is going to Colorado…not happening…nothing is happening lol…this is the GM who refuses to fire Sullivan…he’s not bold
Normally I'd ignore the Weekes' tweet. But Callahan's response has me intrigued.
