Here is Rosen's scouting report from Wheeler's 2024 write-up of the Sabres prospect pool.

Rosen was just on the outside of Wheeler's top-100 list in the off-season. This write-up makes me feel he has 20 goal, 50 point 2nd liner upside, but just with a bit less risk than Koivunen. So he'd rank just above Koivunen but that's mostly based on him not having skating issues, the two seem to have similar upsides.

Rosen seems like a fairly standard mid/late 1st type of prospect to draft. He was likely overdrafted a bit at #14 but seems like a fairly standard 1st round caliber prospect.

Yeah, I have no problems with Rosen per se. He seems like a fine complimentary top 9 guy like Rackell. He just seems like, ideally, the kind of piece you add once you get the other framework to build around.

Maybe if they shed enough pieces then Crosby would want out for one more run at the cup while keeping a future coaching/front office jobs on the table with the Pens. I know it's not black and white but if they hold onto Crosby/Malkin/Letang/Karlsson/etc... I'd be worried about them being stuck in no man's land, outside of the playoffs and outside the bottom 5 for the next few years.

But if Management was to bite the bullet and fully commit, then in 2 years time you guys could be walking away with one of McKenna/DuPont + a top 5 pick + an abundance of 1sts you gathered from the sell off. I could see your prospect pool being among the top of the league as soon as the summer of 2027 with a bit of luck. But if most of the vets stick around and you pick in the 5-15 range for the next 3 drafts it leaves you in a bit of an awkward spot.

I don't see any big moves happening while they're in the hunt this season though obviously.
It's simply not happening.

I don't understand why other fans are obsessed with the Penguins trading Crosby or Malkin to have the Penguins bottom out right now. They're already bad with Crosby and Malkin and their NMCs basically ensure you wouldn't get that much value back for them, even with how good Crosby is. What's the point of even trading him?

Sending Crosby to Colorado for Mittelstadt and a late 1st isn't worth it over keeping Crosby as a 1 team guy.

We’ve been over this. Only way Crosby gets traded is if he wants to be traded, which is unlikely.

Any validity to Madden saying Malkin is done after this year?

I think the chart is just wrong tbh, the Penguins are 4th in both PP GF (38) and PP% (27.1%).
27.1% is Godlike compared to this team's norm. 27.1% on last year's team is probably a 2 seed in the metro. What a difference a year makes. Fix the PP, everything else falls apart.

They better keep a defib around Madden when Geno announces he's hanging 'em up.

Or, y'know, don't.

I mean it's just funny to me that more than likely Evgeni Malkin is going to be pushed out the door even if he does fairly well next season (you never know if they do something like stick him next to Crosby all year) and Kris Letang plays another like two or maybe even three trash seasons here while he already looks every bit as dusted or worse.

If Geno wants to be back I can't see a world in which they don't keep him going on 1 year deals. I'm not sure he does. It probably depends on how the team does next year. If they inject a lot of young talent, make the playoffs and look like a team that could make noise the year following, I'd assume he comes back. If we are still circling the drain, Magnitogorsk it is!.

I rather doubt it will even be an issue as he is likely to retire regardless. But I dunno... I could see him possibly doing decent (within context) next season, getting that competitive fire re-lit and thinking he can offer something for another season and the Penguins saying "nah." I really don't think Mike Sullivan is a big fan despite all the commentary to the contrary and in fact I somewhat doubt he wanted him back to begin with.

All 100% speculative on my part of course. Just based on the dynamic between the two throughout the years.

Interesting aspect to the rumored separation/divorce from his wife. I believe she's a well-known Russian TV personality. If they are indeed split and she still spends a lot of time in Russia, what happens to the kid? Everyone knows Geno adores him more than anything.
