Granlund was really tanking in Nashville too.Players like McCann and Granlund are just symptoms of bad coaching, but apparently we like that.

Granlund is San Jose's modern version of Dick Tarnstrom.
I 100% agree Sullivan shares some of the blame here, but Hextall was mainly at fault. They needed a 3C capable of playing with heavy defensive usage and he went out and got Granlund Sullivan's stubbornness prevented him from at least trying to find a better spot for Granlund, which has been a common theme of his, but it was a terrible trade from a team needs and/or player evaluation point of view.Like the players or not, if they leave the Pens and immediately rebound, that is on the coach.

Yohe says no in his latest article butt-kissing Sullivan…read it and weep lol…oh and nothing new…same thing we all heard: UFAs Petts and DOC gone and no one else lol
“Earlier this season, many people believed coach Mike Sullivan was on the hot seat because of the Penguins’ horrible start.
He never was. That doesn’t mean Sullivan is bulletproof, of course. I suppose if the Penguins plummeted to the bottom of the standings and Sullivan lost control of the locker room, sure, he could be terminated. Stranger things have happened.
The fact is, however, that the Penguins front office is very pleased with the job Sullivan has done. The front office understands that many of the goaltending issues were not his fault. The Penguins also have largely cleaned up their defensive messes from earlier this season. The Penguins’ future Hall of Famers love Sullivan. And he has overseen noticeable improvement in recent weeks from young players such as O’Connor, Phil Tomasino and Cody Glass.”
What I’m hearing about the Penguins: Trade deadline whispers and slam dunks
Here's the latest buzz surrounding the Penguins, Kyle Dubas and the looming NHL trade deadline.www.nytimes.com
I think Yohe's probably correct that they won't see any major trades in the season because they only have 1 retention slot left and they might want to use it on Pettersson to expand his market. That said, I think Karlsson is as good as gone this off-season, specifically after his July signing bonus is paid out. They'll pay out his signing bonus and trade him after with retention so any team acquiring him will only owe him like $7 million over 2 years.
Yohe also seems to think there would be a market for Letang if Letang wanted to move on, which I don't believe because Letang's contract is horrendous.
I feel like this is a problem with most coaches - in most sports. Something has worked to get them to the level they're at, and they fear if they abandon it they'll have no idea what to do and be out of a job. If you stick to your guns, you might get fired, but you'll almost certainly be hired again in the NHL because of how hard it is to break in as an HC. If you lose the sauce that got you there, get ready to learn Swiss-German buddy.Yeah, again I go back to the snippet from Leonsis' biography I saw floating around on twitter a while ago. He basically said McPhee got sick of Dale Hunter and Adam Oates' approach to coaching and he told them flat out "You have to coach the team you're given, not coach the team you wish you had."
Would love for Dubas to have the guts to say that to Sullivan. Or better yet, f***ing fire his ass after nearly a decade of failures.

4 points out with 2 more games played than almost everyone ahead of them. This late in the season thats a big gap to make upBeing 4 points out does anyone believe Dubas will make a trade?
What’s up with Geno?Granlund also had personal issues when he was here.
Kinda like Geno now.
That makes more sense. We wouldn’t have of a garage sale, as much as a garbage sale. I’m thinking we’re coming out of the deadline with some late picks, and maybe a reclamation project or two.LeBrun added that the Pens will absolutely sell, but the idea that it's going to be a firesale at the deadline is a misnomer - simply because the Pens don't have a lot to offer.
Dubas will make every effort to make trades to acquire young players, prospects, and draft picks (and LeBrun says it's in that specific order), but there might be a more flexible market in the offseason for guys with term.
NHL rumblings: Latest on Canucks-Miller, Blue Jackets-Provorov, Penguins’ plans, Oilers’ needs and more
Add the Hurricanes and Devils to the list of a handful of teams that have had talks with the Canucks about a J.T. Miller trade.www.nytimes.com
Theyll probably just trade MP, Gryz and Beauvillier at the deadline. Everyone else has too much term or NTCs.
