He got scratched in the Montreal series and was a total no show in the Islanders series. I'm a McCann fan, but there is a reason he got moved and it was because he doesn't show up in the playoffs which is why they replaced his spot with Rodrigues who then went onto scoring in the playoffs multiple times and then win a cup.
You're right that Granlund was a disaster.
Nobody is doing this. I am equal in my criticism of both Hextall and Dubas. I've given props to Dubas for the Glass and Tomasino acquisitions. I give props to what Hextall did right and did wrong.
McCann and Tanev will never be an issue for me nor Matheson and Marino. Hextall shuffled in and out depth players.
I will remind you that Hextall's last season here was largely more of a health issue in terms of the playoff miss then a roster construction issue. I will also remind you that, that team despite missing 15-30 games from each of Petry, Letang, Pettersson and Rutta finished above Dubas' roster in points.
Once again the issue is both Hextall and Dubas suck and people want to preface Dubas' suckage by saying "Hextall gave him a disaster of a situation". Dubas' suckage goes back to his Leafs days though. He sucked in Toronto. He's sucked here. He just sucks.
Well shoot, if we are using the Islanders series as the standard, we look at Guentzel who had 1pt in 4 games. Thus, he's clearly not worth a 1st round pick in a trade.
Shuffling depth players in and out isn't a problem. The problem is when you give away good young depth players who have skill sets that compliment the current team and bring in older, worse players who have limited skills that hurt the overall effectiveness of the team. If he had gotten valuable depth players or extra assets that bridge the gap in value, Dubas could have used those to send out and bring in other depth players. The problem was that every move Hextall made required a payment to undo or improve upon. And at the end of the day, it was unnecessary. It was a self-inflicted wound at a time where the roster/team couldn't absorb it as well as the they could.
And yeah, Dubas sucks too. His FA signing last year were trash. I understand them to an extent given the needs of the team but they have all fallen well short of expectations. You shouldn't give guys like Graves, Jarry, and Acciari that kind of term. We are paying dearly for it at the moment but at the same time, expectations for team performance has changed compared to the early 2020s. I don't expect them to be a playoff team.
Everyone here criticizes Dubas just like everyone criticizes Hextall. The difference tends to be, you're still mad that Hextall got fired and you already had an axe to grind with Dubas so your perspective quickly changed to "everything Dubas does is bad and Hextall was never at fault", largely because you want to be able to use the failures of Hextall to compound your hatred of Dubas and tell everyone "ya see! ya see! ya see!". As if there is some f***ing prize that awaits you if someone in the media says "well shoot, Hextall was right!" That is where people continuously call you out on your bullshit. No one here is suggesting "Hextall all bad, Dubas all good" like you are the reverse. They BOTH have their fingerprints over this decline. Unfortunately for you, Hextall has a much larger fingerprint given the confluence of events from the last 3-4 years.
If you wanna be made over a 2nd vs a 1st in the Guentzel trade, that's fine. I'm more pissed that we don't have Jared McCann available to be the 2C given how clear it is that Malkin needs to be moved to the wing. But ya know, thank f***ing god we protected the rotten corpse of Jeff f***ing Carter so we could give him a NMC at 65yo.
