The Carter UFA signing was done insanely prematurely and was already bad by the first season of the new deal. Letting ERod go to re-sign Kapanen to a 2 year, $3.2 million AAV deal, when he was awful to end the previous year and was waived halfway through the next season. Swapping out Matheson and Marino for Petry and Rutta made the puck moving far worse and any sort of improvements from physicality didn't make up for it. Not only that, but the team was way older and way slower. He had to pay to get out of McGinn's deal at the deadline, and after he luckily got out of McGinn and Kapanen's deal, he did that horrid Granlund trade.
Those few minutes when we thought something big was happening were pretty exciting, though. Totally worth it.

He got scratched in the Montreal series and was a total no show in the Islanders series. I'm a McCann fan, but there is a reason he got moved and it was because he doesn't show up in the playoffs which is why they replaced his spot with Rodrigues who then went onto scoring in the playoffs multiple times and then win a cup.

You're right that Granlund was a disaster.

Nobody is doing this. I am equal in my criticism of both Hextall and Dubas. I've given props to Dubas for the Glass and Tomasino acquisitions. I give props to what Hextall did right and did wrong.

McCann and Tanev will never be an issue for me nor Matheson and Marino. Hextall shuffled in and out depth players.

I will remind you that Hextall's last season here was largely more of a health issue in terms of the playoff miss then a roster construction issue. I will also remind you that, that team despite missing 15-30 games from each of Petry, Letang, Pettersson and Rutta finished above Dubas' roster in points.

Once again the issue is both Hextall and Dubas suck and people want to preface Dubas' suckage by saying "Hextall gave him a disaster of a situation". Dubas' suckage goes back to his Leafs days though. He sucked in Toronto. He's sucked here. He just sucks.
Well shoot, if we are using the Islanders series as the standard, we look at Guentzel who had 1pt in 4 games. Thus, he's clearly not worth a 1st round pick in a trade.

Shuffling depth players in and out isn't a problem. The problem is when you give away good young depth players who have skill sets that compliment the current team and bring in older, worse players who have limited skills that hurt the overall effectiveness of the team. If he had gotten valuable depth players or extra assets that bridge the gap in value, Dubas could have used those to send out and bring in other depth players. The problem was that every move Hextall made required a payment to undo or improve upon. And at the end of the day, it was unnecessary. It was a self-inflicted wound at a time where the roster/team couldn't absorb it as well as the they could.

And yeah, Dubas sucks too. His FA signing last year were trash. I understand them to an extent given the needs of the team but they have all fallen well short of expectations. You shouldn't give guys like Graves, Jarry, and Acciari that kind of term. We are paying dearly for it at the moment but at the same time, expectations for team performance has changed compared to the early 2020s. I don't expect them to be a playoff team.

Everyone here criticizes Dubas just like everyone criticizes Hextall. The difference tends to be, you're still mad that Hextall got fired and you already had an axe to grind with Dubas so your perspective quickly changed to "everything Dubas does is bad and Hextall was never at fault", largely because you want to be able to use the failures of Hextall to compound your hatred of Dubas and tell everyone "ya see! ya see! ya see!". As if there is some f***ing prize that awaits you if someone in the media says "well shoot, Hextall was right!" That is where people continuously call you out on your bullshit. No one here is suggesting "Hextall all bad, Dubas all good" like you are the reverse. They BOTH have their fingerprints over this decline. Unfortunately for you, Hextall has a much larger fingerprint given the confluence of events from the last 3-4 years.

If you wanna be made over a 2nd vs a 1st in the Guentzel trade, that's fine. I'm more pissed that we don't have Jared McCann available to be the 2C given how clear it is that Malkin needs to be moved to the wing. But ya know, thank f***ing god we protected the rotten corpse of Jeff f***ing Carter so we could give him a NMC at 65yo.

I wanted Hextall to be fired. You've created some weird image of me in your head that simply isn't true.

I criticized multiple moves by Hextall just like I will Dubas.

Dubas has just been down right dogshit and people say it's only been a year or something.

Jared McCann sucks. He f***ing sucked against us on Tuesday. He's this white whale that Penguins fans just want to hang onto, but he sucks.

He's Granlund. He's a mid player getting top PP time on a bad team.

No he didn't.

Also like I said Granlund has outproduced McCann. So why are you giving Hextall crap for McCann and not Dubas crap for Granlund?

Desmith has outproduced both Jarry and Ned over the last two years. Why are you not giving him props?

Dubas did not need to make any moves. He had 20 mil and assets. He could've filled out the roster and rolled with Letang, Petry, Rutta as our RHD. He could've had Granlund as a top six forward.

And once again you're confused. I'm not defending Hextall, I'm saying we have Hextall 2.0, but one who has even less understanding about where we are as a franchise.
Guys who look like shit here were moved and look good to great on their new teams.
Guys who looked good to great on other teams are brought in and look like shit here.

You're so close to getting it.

no matter how aggressively you put it it doesnt mask the fact that this mccann/granlund argument has zero merit

I feel like the Hextall vs Dubas debate happens at least once a week with the exact same points made on both sides. The end result is Gurgles love for Hextall becomes more and more pronounced lol

I for one admire anyone who has the energy to care so much about the relative quality of our GMs and urge them to send me the source of their powers.

We would all be better off if the same jabronies stopped bemoaning the same shit and making the same statements over and over again.

I don't think you want that object given where it goes and where it's been...
