One can only hope and pray so much. Have to have a dance partner.
What a terrible terrible signing.
To go whine and piss some more into the wind. No postage necessary. And where do I send the sympathy card to you?

Of course he won't get claimed. Did you forget he was already waived once this season and hasn't exactly proven anyone wrong since then?
Blomquist (in an obvious small sample size) has the sizeable advantage in advanced metrics, likes goals saved above expected. Jarry's numbers suck no matter what you look at.Yet, the other two are just as bad under the same circumstance, so I'll admit nothing because, so far, I'm fricking right.
Blom being the best percentage guy in far less games (8 to 20+) is not some sound qualifier when they all are over 3.0/3.0+ GAA. Jarry at least climb out of is starting 6.0 to lead them all.
This team needs quality not quantity and they are right where they deserve to be. Scratch that, they actually should be bottom 5.
I think this is where the conversation requires a bit more nuance that "bad signing". At the time, we could all acknowledge that the goalie market was f***ing bleak. So I do get the "well what choice did he have?". I think the criticism should be centered around the term. If the market is bleak and you're unsure if he's earned five years, you offer 2 years max. Things would be fine if it was a 2yr deal.So to play devil's advocate for a moment: Obviously the TJ contract is a disaster. What could the Pens have done differently apart from not signing him?
Looking back on it the goalies that had good seasons since then and got signed that year are:
Cam Talbot
Dave Rittich
Unless I'm missing anything I think that's about it lol. UFA-wise the other big goalie signings like Korpisalo and Jones ended up being terrible.
I guess in retrospect looking back at it the Pens should have gone with a vet on a 1 or 2 year deal and just hoped for the best. Or explored the trade market.
I feel like the number used to be much bigger than that but you're right it's pretty small these days. I feel like in the early-mid 2000s/2010s there was a number of elite or at least good goalies out there.
His last game up cost him his chance. 3 on 8 shots and a whopping .625 save percentage.Blomquist (in an obvious small sample size) has the sizeable advantage in advanced metrics, likes goals saved above expected. Jarry's numbers suck no matter what you look at.
My issue was that it seemed like we gave him the high price he should have gotten in order to keep the term down, but gave him the term as well. It was stupid.I think this is where the conversation requires a bit more nuance that "bad signing". At the time, we could all acknowledge that the goalie market was f***ing bleak. The solution, in hindsight, would have been signing Neds and resigning CDS and letting them go in tandem. Ideally both on 1yr deals.
I wonder if that is due to perceived value on Jarry. At the time I don't think they wanted to give him away for FC. I'd be curious to know what kind of deals were discussed. Obviously nothing that made Dubas feel it was worth it.
Okay, he still won't get claimed. He was placed on a conditioning loan, not waived.

But like I said I don't think you get TJ to re-sign if you only offer him two or three years. People always complain about long year deals in free agency but that's how FA goes. If you don't offer the term/dollars, you don't get the player.I think this is where the conversation requires a bit more nuance that "bad signing". Vegas won the Cup with Hill who was like the fifth choice they had that season. Sure, that's an extreme example but you always have a choice. If nothing else the choice to wait for next season, it's not like we would have been a genuine contender if only we had average goaltending anyway. Also setting the whole situation up like you are being held hostage by a thoroughly mediocre league starter who had never won shit was a decidedly meek and self-defeating thing to do.
"OH NOES LOOK AT THE MARKET GUESS WE HAVE NO CHOICE!

Blomqvist also played against 6 of his 8 games against teams in the top 10.

Jarry has been losing to bottom feeders.
for some reason there is smoke CHI might claim them.
Community service for some of the heinous crimes they’ve allowed to take placefor some reason there is smoke CHI might claim him.
Damn don't make me like you Chicago. But you know what sounds good.for some reason there is smoke CHI might claim him.
I hate that this is both funny but also that there's some people who actually unironically think this. Why are the Penguins waiving a good player instead of waiving the 18 skaters who let him down?
I guess the funniest jokes have some truth to them.
the last two games have been the best two-consecutive games this team has played in probably 50 years, at a time when they needed it if they were going to make the playoffs (which, even if we don't care, the core is certainly trying to do), and a single person turned to jelly (as he ALWAYS HAS) in crunch time.Damn don't make me like you Chicago. But you know what sounds good.
