Boston Bruins 24-25 Roster/Cap thread XV

If it's clear they aren't making the playoffs, sell Freddy, Braz, Koepke, Wotherspoon and Marchy. Get what you can for them all. Marchand is tradeable and nobody should have an issue if it helps the team. Some of the best Bruins have been traded. Chara, Thornton, Seguin, Bourque, Orr etc.
Finish the season with Letteri, Merkulov, Lysell inserted. Maybe they get a spark and make the playoffs regardless and play with house money. Weirder stuff has happened.
This team needs a retool, clear some cap, play some kids and with the cap rising, they should be able to afford 2 top six players even if Marchy were to return.

Correction: the Bruins never traded Orr or Chara, they left via free agency. And Bourque was only traded because he requested it.

It’s hard to make trades. It’s hard to sign top billing free agents when you are paying 3rd & 4th line plugs top 6 money. Replace Korpisalo with DiPietro, ship out Coyle Carlo and you have 12m in cap space for a Rantanen/ Guentzel type. Mr Harvard is beloved by some here. Meanwhile Vegas builds a contending team via trades with the likes of Eichel Stone Hanifin etc. But hey they’ll all want to come to Boston in their early to mid 30’s let’s pin our hopes on that

This article is 10 years old.

And the stat is still official.

Seems the gist of the article is you can't use it to compare players from different teams. I agree.

That said, I will agree that with the number of empty net goals climbing, the stat should be adjusted to not including them.

What does a Coyle at 1/2 retained get you?
Retain 1.1 on Carlo. 3 playoffs with a guy at 3 mil
All our UFA guys at 1/2 retained
I keep Marchand if he wants to stay
Go after the best prospects/young players you can get
Carlo with some retention and Coyle (Freddie) 1/2 retained could land a real good prospect/young gun.

I would love Necas and it's definitely a situation to watch, but I can't wait a year and a half for us to fill holes and I don't want to build a team on the hope that he makes it to free agency because we've seen guys we thought would be great fits and sure to sign here, not even make it to July 1st.
 
You know that Donnie is saving his job by telling Charlie, on a daily basis, that the injuries can't be overcome this year.
Unfortunately, it will work and they'll give him a pass. He'll reach in the draft and pick some lead foot idiot at spot 16 this year. Re-sign an aging Marchand. Re-sign Mystery Man Frederick. RFAs Lohrei and Geekie will get raises.
And We'll be right back here next year.

Sweeney is running out of time though .Yea he will probably get another season for sure but if he does not have a good deadline and off season ,the media will start because believe me they are watching what he does.Sportsnet and TSN in Canada are Leafs driven and will not pass up a chance to slam him good which will put more pressure on Bruins higher ups to can him.This is his biggest spot since 2015 draft and don't worry they will bring that up lots too.

Necas & McKinnon has to be the fastest skilled line in history

They are sick

They will offer him the Rantanen deal - let’s see if he takes it

I would to play with McKinnon & live in Colorado

That would be cool. I have a hard time seeing Colorado trade him 4 months after acquiring him. Especially since he seems to be doing well and fitting in. And for picks and prospects? They're trying to win now, I would think they'd want a good player in return.

I think the first chance to get him will be next deadline. If he's refused to sign with them by then, they'll probably move him rather than risk losing him for nothing, but again, I'd think they'd want a young point per game forward in return, like they did with Rantenen.

The good news is that if he's refused to sign with Colorado by next deadline, then chances are probably good that he'll make it to free agency, and you can use Pasta to recruit him at the Olympics and let him know him we've got a big bag of cash waiting for him.

(OT: You couldn't offer them a 2025 1st on July 1st because you would have already used the pick. :loony: )

Yea they have another year control over him at 6.5 million.Free agent in 26.

They aren’t selling. That would be the equivalent of Sweeney telling Jacobs that he’s not cut out for the job and he should be fired. Even though selling is the smart decision, we all know that’s not the case with this franchise. Getting to the first round is better than winning the lottery because you can’t get extra concessions during the lottery. More likely than not they’ll trade a 2nd and a 4th for an upgrade somewhere.

I would trade any player on this roster.

Having said that, there are a few I would keep. Mason and Mathew are two of them.

As for Sweeney, he is conspicuously invisible and unavailable to local media, but he can pop up on the TNT broadcast to take a softball question or two.

Go manage your "Four Nations" foolishness, Don.

I am so sick of this character it isn't funny. And Cam too.

You never know once you get in. Anybody seriously scared of any of the teams in the East outside of the Panthers?? And i only say the Panthers because they are battle tested.

Same with the Flyers in 2010 they won a SO on the last day of the regular season to squeak into the playoffs and end up going all the way to the finals. LA one year was the 8th seed and won the cup.

Everyone loves to talk about how things fell right for the Bruins in 2019. Well, the same can be said for the 2010 Flyers. Got the Devils in Round 1 who they owned that season (won 5 of 6 in the regular season, defeated them in 5 games). A banged up Bruins team in Round 2, a Cinderella Habs team in Round 3. Avoided the Caps and the Penguins. Then got smoked really by Chicago in the finals.

That LA Kings team was a juggernaut defensively, 2nd in GAA. They added Jeff Carter in his prime at the deadline who changed their whole outlook up front, slots in as their 2nd best forward behind Kopitar. They are no 8th seed if they have Carter all season.

That is basically what this Bruins team needs, an elite forward in his prime to slot behind Pasta. Very doubtful they find that at the deadline.

retention is a great tool to use and sweeney should certainly consider that depending on what's on
the table. but you can only do it 3 times per season.
