Boston Bruins 24-25 Roster/Cap thread XIV

It's just a massive gamble to get such a player, and a gamble that I don't think is worth taking with this crew.

I'd shut down Lindholm and McAvoy for the five remaining games AND the Four Nations Cup.

Suddenly, you have your top two D fully rested and 100% going into February to April. Then add a 1st line C with something to prove and Pastrnak on his wing.

Pettersson is worth the gamble to me, Miller is not, because with Miller you are also betting on a team that can do it now and in the next couple of seasons, which I am not convinced about. Pettersson is an investment in the next several years of a guy in his prime and you have time to retool the team around a different-looking core.

Who do you think eP40 is rooting for here.;)

I'm still in the boat that believes this:

If you get the Bruins a 1st line C they can/will upset Toronto or Washington in the 1st round with their play defensively and Swayman getting hot at the right time. Both Toronto and Washington are playing great regular season hockey. Reminds me of the Bruins vs. the Panthers two years ago.
Boston went into the '23 PO with Bergeron weeks away from forced retirement because of a spinal injury and Ullmark not 100%. Washington and Toronto will
beat Boston in 5 if healthy if they meet, trade or no trade.

You're probably better off to sell pieces you aren't going to re-sign and make a run for the final spot and hope Swayman knocks off Toronto or Washington (I have no doubt it's possible)

Devils' advocate, if he felt the fan base and media was being too hard on his effort, Boston is going to be a rough, rough situation.

I'd like to think Pettersson coming here would be a reset for him and him buying into the Bruins culture.

I also feel like if I was Sweeney, I'd be asking and listening to Lindholm and Zadorov who were there and really seeing who the better fit is for the Bruins.

What culture? What does this even mean anymore? You got guys out there right now going through the motions, including veterans like Coyle who have been here for years. What culture is there to buy into?

I agree, it has fallen off. So time to move on from the guys you mentioned even though he is trying to maintain it while putting up terrible numbers.

I feel some are really stuck in the past. The culture of the Big Bad Bruins who play tough/hard hockey. We haven’t seen anything similar to that since the 2011 Stanley Cup team. They certainly don’t have the roster makeup for it now.

He’s definitely worth the gamble but I don’t think Boston has anything close to being appetizing for Vancouver (that would make sense).

So JT seems like he can be a real A-hole, who has no self-control on knowing when enough is enough and EP seems a little mentally weak, he needs some coddling or he wont produce up to his standards.

Welcome to the forum (if you are new!). I am not sure I agree with that necessarily. The longer the clownshow goes on, the lower the price and I think the Bruins have assets they could use to land the guy. We have some players underperforming this season that are better than they are showing. I'd offer the 2025 1st, maybe the 2026 2nd, Carlo and Frederic. Maybe Coyle would actually be of interest to them if they are moving out a center. It can be done.

Thanks! Definitely need to factor in that it’s a mess there. Maybe you could get one of them for less value than you should.

I don't think that is fair to say about Petterson. I don't care if it's sports or out in the working world, a good manager or coach knows that not everyone responds positively to the same thing and gets to know the people under them and figure out what approach works and what doesn't. The blanket approach may of worked years ago but it's much more individual now. Some guys need to be punished, others their ego stroked, some challenged to step up, etc. etc.

Miller was told flat out to lay off Petterson, his approach did not work with this player/teammate and unfortunately Miller only seems to know one way to do things, his way. That's concerning for any GM bringing him in.

Forget it folks - it’s over

Ownership

write a letter to the season ticket holders apologize for not taking Sebastian Aho 15 in 2015; outline 5 year plan to get back to playoffs

Blow it up - everyone goes

Cut ticket prices 33% and don’t charge for preseason

Bring back the Eddys ice cream machine & waffle cones

Pass out 4 large large sized Bobble heads during the season & other high end promotions

Lower volume of in game music and time out breaks

Wow, he's giving up $4.5m now and next year. He's probably thinking he's going to bet on himself, sign with a contender for the league minimum and prove his value in the playoffs. Then he's a UFA on July 1st again, and he's shown he's not washed.

Maybe he goes back to Colorado.
Monty tough guy now lol

All I know is that if all the players on a team suck you can't blame the GM who picked all those players to be on the team. Those sucky players are failing him!
On the other hand I'm sure everyone here would still give Sweeney credit if he built a legit contender and the players blow it...oh wait

How does waiving him make them better?

Is there some player in the pipeline that’s better that’s being help back by him? The players waived aren’t even in the same world as lindholm. I agree he gets too much $ for his production but he still helps this team. Without him they would be a lot worse.

Once this teams defence gets healthy I think they will be way better.
Even if the defense was healthy, they have no forwards. Lindholm got picked up on waivers, and I know he has NMC, you would at least been rid of that disastrous contract, and then might have some cap room, to start making this team better.

Please just give Lindholm the playoffs before you all write him off 4 months into a 7 year deal. He was underwhelming in the regular season for four months in Vancouver then was a huge clutch player for them in the playoffs. His game really translated to the playoff style of scoring and play.

If he struggles then, go ahead and judge year 1 of 7 as a whole.

It's Sweeney's job to find a 1st line C or legit top 6 scoring help, not the current roster. Pastrnak is scoring and setting up 2nd and 3rd liners.
The problem with your thinking is they might not make the playoffs, and he would be one of the reasons because of his play.

Sacco needs to play Frederic and Coyle at center. They haven't looked good at all at wing this year.

I don't mind Frederic on his off-wing as much as I do LW. He looks more confident coming up the ice on RW, attacks the net more.

Coyle I don't know why they are using him at RW with Poitras in the middle. Came back to bite them on the 1st goal against last night. Should be the opposite.

In the case of both guys, I think both are better in the middle as it forces them to keep their feet moving.

I know Sacco doesn't think Marchand and Lindholm have chemistry, Lindholm assisted on Marchand's goal on the PP last night, but I kind of want to see how Lindholm would look on the wing next to Marchand and Poitras. Lindholm to me has looked more active when he's on the forecheck and is more than willing to play the physical game.
