The way I see it, JT Miller was a nice player who's still very capable but has started his descent. He'll be 32 shortly and is getting $8MM per year until 2030. Vancouver is trying to solve their internal problem by shoving the older Miller off while keeping Pettersson. Should they want to do that, you don't help them. Perhaps with them retaining some salary and lowered expectations on return you have a conversation with them. Otherwise, let them stew on it and watch the trade value go down until, and maybe not at all, it's a more fitting/acceptable deal. I would also be more interested, as many others have already mentioned, if EP was the piece being moved. Let Vancouver, still one of our mortal enemies, choke on it.
I agree. JT Miller, due to his age and contract is worth a lot less than Pettersson in a trade.

I would trade Carlo (top 4 D-Man) plus another roster piece for JT Miller. Top 4 D-man for a top 6 Center is pretty fair, but the Bruins would have to add something because there is a salary cap issue as well. Another piece would have to go to Vancouver. Otherwise, pound sand.

Pettersson has a big contract, but he is young and talented. He would set the Bruins up at Center for years to come. Huge salary though, which makes a tougher trade.

One thing I don't want to do is start dismissing off moves like Miller, Kreider etc the way fans on this board dismissed off Reinhart, Pavelski, Scheifele, Monahan, Necas, etc. I've been in that boat before and learned my lesson.

We get bored and restless and bored leads to boards where we look for reasons to not spend marginal or dwindling assets on talent.

Anyone else remember refusing to include Joe Morrow in deals? Knight? Spooner?

We all search for flaws but in the end, they teams hoisting the Cups are full of 'reclamation' projects or players that other teams felt had dwindling value while coveting their own prized prospects.

I guess each fan has to ask themselves 'how big is this window for the Bruins to contend with Swayman, Marchand, McAvoy, Lindholm and Pastrnak?'

If you think it is coming ahead, plan and pass on talent now.
If you think it is in the next 3-4 years only before the talent ages out, Miller is perfect.
If you think it is the next 8 years, focus on going all in for a guy like Pettersson and all assets are on the table. Use the coming cap flexibility to turn the Lindholm's cap % into an asset when you have a 2nd pairing and 2nd line C making 3rd line percentage-wise salaries.

Push and maintain a positive culture and swing for the fences in free agency to try and lure a 1st line C here.

Agreed.

If Miller would want to waive for Boston, you get a good price. If not and he'll only waive to New York or nothing, it may force Vancouver management to move the highly coveted Pettersson and get a haul instead of a 'Hall' like return that the Bruins had to send out for Taylor Hall.

Easy now. We were all newbies once. Everyone has a right to weigh in. Let's not drive posters away, whether they be rookies or veterans.......welcome newbies!
Can never tell when DKH is sarcastic or not (but is ALWAYS entertaining) but if I'm getting dissed thinking that the Lucic and Dougie Hamilton trades that ended up with Frederic (Martin Jones trade), Kuraly, JFK, Lauzon, the 2015 draft debacle and Colin Miller was not imo Sweeney's finest hour I guess I'll have to live with it - and I'll stop posting so DKH will be happy
