Yeah why can't we be more like the past cup champs and draft guys like Tkachuk and Bennett and Bobrovsky and Verhaeghe and Montour and Rodrigues and Forsling and OEL and Reinhart.

(Hint: none of those guys were homegrown)

But hey, let's move on like Gee Wally said
Well then management has to learn how to trade or sign hockey players who can really make the difference. I do not believe that we are going to get true value for th 14.8 mil we spent on free agents this past summer. Tyler Bertuzzi is the type of player we needed to sign as he is a player destined to be a Bruin and plays with heart. Unfortunately Tyler does not play center. Florida wins as their players go all out every time they are on the ice.

I also think the team this season is big but the lack of speed will be a huge factor.

I hope they manage to sign Tyler Johnson as he will bring some creativity to the bottom 6.

Excellent advice.

I definitely agree with the last two paragraphs. Too one dimensional in that bottom 6, they need a tad more speed and skill, although maybe I'm being a bit harsh off of one match with what seems like our kryptonite.

IMO Bertuzzi is a flawed player - there's a reason he has went from two cup contenders in Toronto and Boston and now finds himself on one of the worst teams out there instead of on another playoff contending squad. And trust me I liked the guy here, but defensively he is trainwreck and too turnover prone.

What I am saying is that we need players who will give it their all every shift. We have a lot of no shows on many nights as witnessed in the first game against Florida. This seems to happen on a regular basis.

I think it's the right call. Team is a bit too one dimensional in the bottom 6, need some skill added
I prefer Frederic/Geekie with Poitras and Brazeau on the 3rd. He might be a perfect compliment to Kastelic and Beecher, or he might be a pertfect 13th forward. I am hoping he does get that contract eventhough I wanted Lysell/Merkulov to beat him out it feels like he earned this opportunity. He won't be Heinen 2.0 but he could be very helpful in that bottom 6 as you said.

Yeah, always want young talent to strive but if theyre not showing their potential with the big club, a seasoned veteran always helps. I think Johnson could help plenty on the bottom 6 and fill in on PP2 if needed.

I think some of you fans are really crazy lidholm is a much better hockey player than bertuzzi
And then some of you say we got a draft better players how about 63 88 73 1 all of them late round picks

Lindholm is a much better player then Bertuzzi but he has been injured the last couple of seasons and will he come back to the player he once was. This could be a big gamble.

Just going to say, I'm not at all impressed with the line combinations in the top nine at the moment.

What I would like to see tried for a few games ...
Marchand to line 1 lw.
Zacha to center line 2 until Poitras is healthy.
Frederic to line 2 lw.
Coyle to line 3 center.
When Poitras is healthy Zacha moves to line 2 lw Frederic slides over to line 2 rw ... (whichever player is strongest at the dot on defensive zone draws takes the faceoff depending on the side of the ice).
Geekie then drops down to third line.

Build the third line as a 'shut down defensive line' to play against other teams top lines. Use our other lines to create mismatch nightmares for opponents.

Just a random thought ...

Adding 34 year old Tyler Johnson because you lack skill is like adding 35 year old Milan Lucic because your team lacks toughness.

Its a bandaid.

But, its better than nothing right now.

Hopefully, Lysell can force his way up, too. And hopefully Poitras can get healthy and be what we hope.

But, when you look at Florida's top 9...man there is TONS more skill there than Boston has. The Bruins really need another 1st line level talent in the top 6 to get Coyle or Geekie out of there.

At this point they should just sign Bennett next summer
I’ve said it before several times, but I wanted the Bruins to be the team that gambled on trading for him when his value was lower. He would’ve been a fan favourite in Boston.

Band aid ! it is one of those times the cut is bigger than the only band aid you have.

I thought about that, but I'm pretty sure he'll be overpaid and his contract will age very poorly due to his play style

I'd be down for a Bennett / Frederic as a tandem on the same line if the money is right but there is some buyer beware with Bennett

- he isn't good at faceoffs

- he's never put up 50 points in a season

- next contract will most likely be his final chance at a big payday as he heads into his 30's

As third liners, they'd be good but I think the Bruins would still need to find quality 2nd liners with some more skill and production capability. It works for Florida to have him on the 2nd line because they have a guy like Tkachuk that can help drive production and Frederic is not in that same tier of skill and Marchand's age is showing.
