I would have too, but less of a fan of Zadorov and more Elias. In hindsight, I don't know if it ended up a winner for the Bruins. It seems too many holes were left. Still early-ish in the season, though, so I don't feel comfortable calling it win or lose at this point.

I think Zadorov has played really well since the coaching change. His physicality is about what I was expecting for this time of the year. I think both he and Lindholm need more time to get into the flow of being on a new team and new coaching philosophy.

I think Zadorov is living up to his contract. He's 2nd or 3rd on the team in TOI most nights. Plus player. Second on the D in terms of xG%. Big hits. Calls teammates out for lack of passion. He'll make an even bigger impact if they make the playoffs.

Lindholm, I'm losing patience with. I need more. More steals, more shots or more plays. He can't not be ready for a pass from Marchand. He just has to be sharper or he should be treated like someone underperforming.

I’d do lysell Fredric and a first for him. Doubt the ducks are looking to move him. I know the Internet says so but it seems he is playing pretty good over there. If he does get traded it will probably be a pretty big haul.

Debrusk was under rated here. What a shame to lose him.
No freakn way do you give up a 1st for Zegras.

Too many holes ... ah yes, blame only the ufa signings. Nobody wants to blame the Swayman contract for eating up the rest of the cap space for this year ... at least at early on. Swayman could have signed a one year deal for less (bridge deal) and gotten paid next year. But no he threw team first culture under the bus for pay me now culture, thus crippling boston from making any moves. Boston if nothing else could have been banking with a starting point of 2 - 3 million rather than next to squat. Boston now might have cap space come the trade deadline if they navigate the cap successfully to do something then. So it's not just the money spent on Zadorov and Lindholm but also Swayman which contribute to other holes in the line up.

It’s ludicrous to suggest someone of Swayman’s caliber is supposed to take a one year deal to help the Bruins cap space. Like over the top.

There are a number of things you can point to here, but the discussion was about the two UFAs and essentially the Bruins let go two NHL caliber D men (like them or not) for one, and two middle six forwards (like them or not) for one. The Bruins knew they were going to have to pay Swayman, especially after moving Ullmark, though maybe they thought it would come in a mil lower AAV, but even so that was money already spent.

Unless you think they should have just let him sit and rolled with Korpi/DiPietro or Korpi/Bussi? In which case, then yeah, they could have brought in another scoring forward, or a quality D man. Otherwise, it is the in-house replacements that we currently have.

I really hope Zadorov is turning a corner with penalties because he has been good when on the ice.

One thing I’ve always hated about plus/minus is that I think a person who commits a penalty and puts his team on the penalty kill should get a minus if the opposing team scores on their power play.

He’s really hurt the Bruins at times this year with penalties. It won’t show up on any stats but man it’s killed us at times.

I said a one year deal for less and get paid next year when they have more cap space and flexibility.
It wouldn't be the first time an "understanding" to get paid later was used for the good of the team.
BUT, my point was, it isn't exclusively Zadorov and Lindholm's fault there are holes in the line up.
That was the part I was replying too ... a lot of blame to go around, not just those two.
Anyway, moving on ....

I don’t disagree that it is more than just the new UFA’s. But in response to the post about four guys out two guys in, I think that is certainly part of the problem.

The 2 best newcomers at forward have been left to rot on the 4th line as well.

Anyone know how Max Jones has or hasn't been playing in Providence?
Any chance we see him in the Spoked B again, like ever?

I don't get this argument. I mean, the Bruins don't dress 16 skaters. They didn't replace Grzelcyk and Forbort with just Zadorov, they also dress Lohrei or Wotherspoon. They didn't replace DeBrusk and Heinen in the top6 with just Lindholm, they wanted to give Geekie a shot there since he had the same number of points as DeBrusk, and played well on the first line in the playoffs.

What am I missing?

It's not really an argument, and not one I was making as such but more clarifying an earlier post as I understood it, and then it took off,. But for the sake of it, they *did* sign two UFAs who are established NHL players, and shipped out four. Wotherspoon and Lohrei were on the roster last season and so was Geekie, right? I get that they wanted these guys to step into the roles, but it was a dice roll of sorts to do that. Geekie is clearly not top 6 material and likely will never be. Wotherspoon is what he is, a 7th D man. Lohrei is establishing himself, but has some way to go. So, the basic 'argument' as I understood it was that holes were left by losing two veteran NHLers who were not replaced.

I do not believe this is the only or most important issue the Bruins have, but I do think it is part of the problem.

It seems to me like you're saying the Bruins had 26 guys last year and this year they only have 21 so look at all the points we lost by carrying 5 less players. You're counting Forbort who played less than half the season as a player we lost and you're saying we can't count Lohrei even though this is his first full year. You're counting anyone who was here, so Peeke who only played 15 games last year, and Brazeau who only played 19 games, don't count as new players because they were here for a fraction of games. That doesn't seem like a fair comparison.

If you look at the roster we had last year and the roster we just played tonight, the reaplacements line up like this...

OUT / IN
DeBrusk / Lindholm
Heinen / Brazeau
JVR / Kastelic
Maroon / Koepke
Boqvist / McLauglin
Grzelcyk/ Zadorov
Forbort / Peeke
Shattenkirk/Lohrei

If the point is that we are getting less secondary scoring from our depth players I would agree. It's not the main problem, (the main problem is that we are not getting enough primary scoring from our main guys), but it definitely doesn't help.
