It's kinda weird having prospects to be excited about, tbh.
Hopefully they can achieve Bryan Rust levels of mid.

Howe just looks like he has the type of game that can't miss to make it to the NHL level. Brings a lot of tools to the table. Not saying he will be an impact player, but I can't see a way he won't make an NHL roster at some point.

Bryan Rust is anything but mid, I’ll have you know. He’s tepid! He’s middling! He’s meh!

Reactions: Sorry
Both Brunicke and Howe on canadas camp roster. Anyone of them making the team seems like a long shot though.

I think Brunicke's issue is that he has a fractured risk and he may not get into enough games to be selected. He'll definitely make the team next year, though.

It's super good to see Howe exploding in production as soon as he got to a better team. This is his last year in the WHL so you really want to see him dominate the league.

Bob McKenzie did a run down of the camp invites noting which players seemed to have an inside track on roster spots. Howe was among those seen as a favorite to be on the roster, Brunicke was not.

USA also released their prelim roster today. Swanson not included.

Ilyin with 15 points in 29 games in the KHL as a 19 year old, despite going 10 straight games without a point and without any elite linemates.

I think this is why that you can't just judge players based on stat watching either. If you were purely looking at his statline, you never would have guessed this with Howe.

Brunicke said he's going to practice with the Penguins before deciding if he's healthy enough for the team Canada camp on December 10.

4 weeks is a little early for a wrist fracture to be healing enough for contact IME, but maybe it was just a hairline fracture or something?

It's a major opportunity for him to shine on the world stage but man I hope he doesn't push anything. I think he has a long career ahead of him that is more important the WJC.

On Howe: It doesn't shock me that much because he plays the game that coaches like. Kid is a little forechecking buzzsaw that dishes out his fair share of physicality. To call him Kunitz-lite at the moment, is pretty fair. Zero shock that he's being looked at a little more closely. I mean, I imagine he'll be on the 4th line with 10min of ice time, if that, but it's still nice to see some Pens prospects in the mix.

Speaking of other Pens prospects - Emil Pieniniemi - still a PPG in the OHL as a dman (though he's 19). This could be another prospect that is like Ilyin who could push for a spot in 2-3 years after a season or two in the AHL. Did fairly well in Liiga as well last year. This could be our future 3LD who eventually makes it to 2LD.

Really hard to complain. WBS is fairly loaded right now so I'm glad he's continuing to develop in the KHL. It's still a wild card, but it's absolutely someone who could push in 2-3 years alongside someone like Howe and Koivunen.

Chaz Lucius HockeyDB

Wonder if we can use Cruz to lure his brother into becoming another disgruntled WPG prospect who wants out. Looks to be exactly what our system needs..
He'd certainly fit right in with his injury history. Like 3 surgeries already for 3 separate injuries cutting seasons short.
Can you get enough in return to mitigate the risk? Would Chevy even acknowledge that risk in negotiations?

Not enough talk about Pieniniemi around these parts. Been in Prince Edward a good amount for work in the last month or so and skating with their senior team and keep getting dragged to see Frontenac games by some of the guys on the team, and honestly almost forgot he was playing there. Every game, without fail, he's a silky smooth, composed break-out machine. Defends well on the rush, looks a bit bigger than his 6'2 listing and jumps into the play at the right time, gets activated low more than I expected and uses really good vision and puck-skill to distribute extremely well.

Admittedly, he's on one of the better teams in the weaker conference in the OHL, but he plays huge minutes for them on the top pairing, PP, PK, and is a good reason why they are so staunch defensively for the 30+ minutes he seems to be out there every game.

Should be on pairing #1 for Finland in the WJC, so excited to see how he does there, and should also have Kangas to watch on the second pairing

Crap, didnt know that part. I just saw a big RHC who puts up decent numbers at every level.

If Lucius could stay healthy, it's not a bad return I don't think. 18th OA pick, produces at every level, C, but don't think he's played over 30 games since being drafted. Don't think you get that return if Lucius is healthy. Hard to value with the injuries.
Got to be more aggressive if the Jets are really a possibility. I would say Lambert, Barlow or Yager back along with a 2nd rounder. The biggest calls will be coming in most probably from the West, create a f***ing bidding war between them by letting them know all the teams interested and calling..

Would love to go for Lambert but I feel there's zero chance of that.

If we're trading MP at 50% off alone and don't at least get the equivalent of an untainted 1st rounder, we've failed.

And with the numerous injuries, the bloom's off the rose. Nevermind adding DOC.
