Just doing a little devils advocate here. Maybe Quinn feels like Smith is better defensively than ADA against OV and the Caps. I know we're not used to a coach who gameplans but he may just want a guy doesn't rover or jump into the offense as much against them.

I would rather ADA in as well, just trying to get into Quinn's head a bit.

Eh, have you seen Smith play? He's always jumping into the offense. ADA is probably our most disciplined player in that aspect...mostly because skjei is always behind the opposing net on the offensive side so he's forced to stay back lol.

Claesson has been worse than ADA the last few games, so has Shattenkirk. I get why ADA is sitting, but by that same token Quinn should be scratching those 2 if they play badly tonight.
I think all 3 of them have been good, particularly Shattenkirk.

If Claesson has a bad game he could very well be scratched, and ADA right back in. Tbh I wouldn’t be surprised to see Claesson scratched soon just for the sake of keeping guys fresh.

DeAngelo has already proved this season that he can take a scratch in stride, so I don’t see any reason to be concerned yet.

Shattenkirk has been very good lately.

Claesson is the 7th dman on a one year deal making nothing is he ok? Yeah he’s fine but shouldn’t be sitting a DeAngelo for him so you can get Brendan Smith in there. That’s absurd and makes me even more uneasy knowing McQuaid will be back eventually and will prob take deangelos spot for good again

Damn, you're right. The only thing that would make feel better is that he thinks he should be tougher on ADA because he sees a lot of promise in him. But because the braindead media didn't ask him why he was sitting ADA we won't know.

It feels like coaches don't trust young players with good offensive instincts. It's absolute bull**** that our best defenseman is sitting. It's like every damn coach comes from the same hockey factory where "young+offense=bad".

Taking a scratch in stride only goes on for so long when you aren’t deserving of it. You don’t want a guy like that playing safe to avoid benchings. Imagine if you sat Erik Karlsson when he was a kid every time he made a mistake. He was awful defensively when he first came in. DeAngelo has been great this is stifling.

They have to play better than yesterday, right? :help:
Game was over as soon as Hank let in that 2nd goal, he knew it, everybody knew it. Worst effort along with no cohesion. No one can tell me that "all of a sudden" Philly was a cup contender with elite goaltending.

I think they collectively saved their energy for the Caps at HOME. They want to win todays game badly.

The fact is that we have a lot of players, on defense and offense, who have earned spots, and only so many openings. It’s a good problem to have.
Exactly, and I kind of like it.......keeps EVERYONE on their toes with little complacency. Gonna get the best out of everyone all the time or sit.

Just awaiting a much needed trade, to lose the traffic jam.

Tony has played 10 straight games, it’s a B2B. I’m definitely in the top 1% of DeAngelo fanboys, but I just don’t see any reason for concern until proven otherwise. For all we know, he could go back in Monday and play in all remaining 58 games.

I guess this is a form of bias, but I trust Quinn at this point, too.

Call me crazy or stupid or whatever but I don't really feel like sitting ADA means Quinn doesn't trust him. Some of you literally want to grasp at anything to be mad over in a year where, so far, we've seen exceeded expectations and some nice surprises, and positive direction stuff from the players and Quinn alike. I can see it from the coaching staff's end of giving him a rest and more of constructive criticism going on instead of straight punishment. I trust this guy more than AV that he is doing something with reason and not just :losing guys" on the bench or force riding wrong guys into the ice

I hate how Staal gets a free ride because of his tenure. What is this a ****ing government job? Play your best players.

I get the feeling that the coach is focused on the guys he thinks he can get more out of and while Staal is a decent veteran presence on the bench Quinn knows there isn't really any upside to try and extrude there.

Yeah, I wondered if that was the case too.
