Wish Kakko would have moved the puck to the point earlier instead of once again holding onto it for too long and getting nothing out of it.
I actually like his assertiveness and willingness to shoot the puck. We have way too many pass 1st players as it is. Those sneaky quick shots surprise goaltenders and leaves them subject to rebounds. Thing is, we have to pounce on them and usually we don't.

he has zero ability to compose himself. Wheels come right off at the first sign of adversity. If things are going well for him he gets better and better as the game goes on. If there’s a bump in the road forget it. Total freak out someone gets worse and worse as the game goes on. He’s the worst kind of back up

what kinkaid gave you last night is exactly the definition of a reliable back up. Didn’t steal you the game but very much so gave you a chance to win. No ugly goals couple big saves and you had a chance to win. That’s what u want in a back up. Not a guy you have zero idea what he’s going to give you

Kinkaid reminds me of Marty Biron. Will he put up a 40 save shutout? No. Will he give you a chance to win and not lose his mind out there? Yes.

Probably the biggest reason for that is because of the yellow streak on our club for the most part . When one of our offensive catalysts have a chance to drive in a rebound they poke or swat at it and then are skating AWAY from the NET....instead of skating towards the net for possibly another rebound!!! Say what you want...we don't score many greasy goals over the course of a season . Just watch them...it is easy to see . It's just a small thing...but that stuff adds up . We have a couple of guys that will go straight to the net...but most don't because they might get roughed up .

If someone came up to me and forced me to describe the Rangers in one word, it would be "fancy."

If someone came up to me and forced me to describe how I would like the Rangers to be more, it would be "heavy."

Both last year and this year, Georgiev has had the same consistent problem. He lets in a soft/bad goal, he gets pissed off and then the flood gates open. That is the very definition of a player that lacks mental toughness, especially the mental toughness required to be a #1 in the league. He doesn't shake it off and move on, it eats at him and then his mechanics break down.

Or is it that he sucks and isn't anything more than an okay back up?

I'm going to go with that.

It’s amazing watching the young guys on other teams produce. They might not win but they’re fun to watch. We don’t win and we aren’t fun to watch. Pretty amazing really with the kids we have and no one can score.

doesn’t matter if they’re first overall second overall 7th 9th 21st 27th 32nd forward or dman not named fox no one can come in and produce under this coaching staff.

so Gorton needs to ask himself is he drafting the wrong guys (no) or does he have a coach that doesn’t know what he’s doing? (Yes)

because it’s one or the other period

Our breakouts from our zone are atrocious. Look at how the pens passed quickly ip the ice and were moving while we chipped it off the glass or the “stretch” pass to a stationary player at the blueline. Also why cant we pass tap to tape. We go tape to skate.

also our forecheck sucks. We dont put nearly enough pressure. The pens always had 2-3 guys pressuring us in waves. As one backed off the third player would come in so it was consistently 2 forecheckers.

we run a system of one forechecker half assing it and then backing off.

im not sure if its quinns system or our players just not being quick enough but it has become blatantly obvious

In one word, I would describe the situation simply as it is.
The players are "incapable" of executing a fantasy league system while the coach trying to implement it is "amateur"

Big fan of the heavy/ skill game.

We actually can’t afford to trade nils lundkvist it’s painfully obvious we miss the offense from the back end that we had with DeAngelo. That’s another issue sticking out like a sore thumb

I don't think hes going to be very impactful offensively 5v5 (at least off the bat.)

Really unless Nils is going to get legitimate PP time, his value to the Rangers is really tied to what he may potentially return.

I'm not sure Quinn is the issue but I'd be willing to try another coach, however the issues at play here imo are work ethic, getting to dirty areas and using your speed all game. Imo we need a true captain, not one of the "A" 's we have now. Accountability amongst the team never seems to be a thing here. This team has become the good times club, where you do enough to keep your contracts coming but never enough to be a successful team. Kreider is the prime example, like he played amazing for a small stretch here lately because he was skating but why is this not the case every night? It's really noticeable that thats the only change in his game, that he's skating harder. This is a serious issue with so many young players here learning to be nhl players. We rarely put together 60 mins of hockey, there's always a let down for 20 or more of the game, and this isn't just a David Quinn thing, the same thing got AV turfed. The sad thing is we miss Fast, not because of his skill level but because he was the only one, shift in and shift out that played hard, we shouldn't have to miss a guy like him, there should be 20 more in that locker room doing the same thing, but for some reason coming to ny is like winning the lottery, sit back and collect that cash. Outside of Panarin, every big player that comes in usually gets worse by playing in ny. It's too bad we couldn't have signed Chara, i feel a guy like him would straighten a lot of issues with regard to expectations in that locker room.
Funny you mentioned Chara. Said that before, he would have been IDEAL for in house accountability. And again, we DO NEED A BONAFIDE CAPTAIN. Pick one already, btw who does that? Are they waiting for a new coach to NOT have a feel who deserves that HONOR, and we have to wait yet another year?
Do it already.

oh just another random rookie popping off a hat trick no problem. Imagine kakko 2nd overal pick dominant prospect until he got here doing that?

I feel they realize they don't have their captain in that room yet and are either waiting for someone to step up or aquire him.

To me I keep coming back to, what is Dave Quinn hockey?

This season just about every team we’ve played has had a distinct “flavor”. You know when you play the Isles they are gonna trap, the Devils are going to play loose and trade chances, the Pens are gonna play tight as hell defensively in the neutral zone and slot and counterattack, the Bruins are going to play chippy and try to interfere as much as possible.

What is the Rangers “flavor”? Pure vanilla at best. I have no idea what type of structure and pace Quinn is trying to have these guys play to.

Sugar-free vanilla ice cream. That's the Rangers flavour. There's no zing to it, the system doesn't reward creativity. It's just focused on territory. It's as if Quinn is coaching a football team, rather than a hockey team.

At the end of the day, we still miss a lot of open net chances.

At the end of the day, we don't know if we miss the most, the least, or the league average.

I imagine Valiquette might have the answer. It would be interesting to know, if it's knowable.

Speaking of thumbs, now our Rangers are left sucking their thumbs thanks to the ineptness of upper mgmt.
Taking out a piece to the puzzle w/o having a plan "b".

He couldn't get an AHL team to take him, i don't know why that's not a red flag to everyone.
