I mean this sincerely, it really comes down to where your head is at with expectations and whether or not to visit this message board. For a long periods of time when we had struggles, I just stayed away from here and I was fine. No joke. Yeah I had my disappointments and frustrations in watching some of the games or things happening within the game over those stretches but it fizzled faster if I walked away from it. Some posts and infighting that can happen on here can potentially throw a heavy dose of salt in the already gaping wounds. Comes down to where your head is at, some people process it better than others, sometimes like you said - you just need a damn break. I've been there!
However, I've been here more this season though for obvious reasons. (glutton for punishment lol

1st period was bad but they really deserved a better fate with how they played the final 40. Regardless, the moral victories and all of that aren't going to do much at this point for their playoff chances. They needed at least 1 of these games v. Pitt and came out of it with 0 points. Now they're 8+ points out at the almost halfway point with 2 teams to jump in a division where everyone plays each other nightly and teams are guaranteed points. They need Igor (hopefully next game) and Panarin (who the hell knows when) back bad and they need to go on a run starting next game otherwise they're 100% toast.

The Pens are a team that know how to play with a lead. They are like 10-2 with a lead going into the third. They know how to play responsible D. They collapse well in front of the net, making it difficult to get to that dirty area. We came really hard at them in the third and they weathered the storm. Just to give you an idea on how well they play D,.. we didn't have an odd man rush the entire game even when we were flying in the third. They are responsible defensively and always have men back to defend. We pressured them much better than last game, forcing them to take some penalties, But even their PK is pretty good. Very aggressive. The Pens blueline is now healthy and they are showing much improved play of late. Even Malkin was excellent in his own end.
We gave it a good effort, once we got our legs going. In the first period, it was looking like a repeat of the last game. We lost a 3 on 1 battle against the wall! But we finally found our speed game from the second period on. The Pens were in prevent D in the third and didn't get a shot on net until Crosby's empty netter. They are probably the only team in the NHL to actually have success laying back like they did. If we did it, we would get crushed.
The Pens impressed me. Unfortunately we gotta play them 2 more times. Fudge.

Trouba has a career high of 50 points (the year byfuglien was hurt and he was PP1) and his second high is 33 in 60 games.

It was 50 pts. And he only did it one year. His best before his last year in Winnipeg was 33.
We paid too much for him.

I don’t see much from him offensively and he’s definitely not good enough defensively to make up for that. Fox has to shoulder the number one RHD load for sure.
I’m sure most of those points were a product of having some offensively super gifted forwards in Winnipeg.

Strome is the other one who gets a lot of flack. I myself have criticized him. But he is consistently producing without Panarin at this point. He has 9g and 9a on the season. That is legitimate 2C production. He should be given more slack.

He's been in the middle of more positive stuff than he was earlier, that can't be denied. He should have had 3 goals the other night but it's been that kind of year for him. I thought he sucked tonight until late in the 3rd where he fell victim to the Buchnevich beef party.
He still isn't close to what he normally is. The shanks and whiffs and inability to catch passes are still a thing. Thats whats most concerning. I can excuse Covid for wrecking his game early in the season, but I don't think any lingering effects still exist and as far as I know, the virus doesn't take your hands.
look at the offensively gifted players here that are doing nothing. That’s kind of my point. They all can do nothing now? Something is seriously seriously wrong with the system if no one can produce. You are risking your entire rebuild sticking with this messaging much longer
In fairness, 33 is still better than what he is doing here. Its also misleading. He had 33 points in 60 games, a 45 point pace. Two years later he scored 50 points, based on his age and increase in production it was safe to assume he was entering his prime as a solid two way defense man. This should have been his prime. Good players should not start seeing substantial regression at 25 years old.
I 100% believe Quinn has misused him with his tenure in NY. I do believe he would be doing better playing for a more established coach.
