So many of you would seem to benefit from not being a fan of sports.
If a championship or bust is all that will bring you pleasure, no matter the sport, it can't be good for your health.

Having survived decade(s) of toil in my 2 primary fandoms, while frustrating, having a consistently competitive team is so much better than the alternative.
True. But it's also painful to watch a great team not really try that hard to compete when they can and just refuse to pay the prices. I'd say that while it's not new, definitely hasn't always been the case with Avs GM's.

See my post here comparing my two favorite sports teams.

I have loved watching the Avs since '01, and for most of that time they've been terrible. But the management of this core... It's just too irritating watching management be dumb as a f***ing doorknob while Tampa and Vegas have scratched, clawed, and cheated to be as competitive as possible for as long as possible.

This Avs core deserved significantly better than what the were given from up top. If I was MacKinnon I would be f***ing livid, if I were Makar I cetainly wouldn't be extending in Colorado.

and the only previous Avs FO that succeeded didn't have a cap to worry about.
The rest (even the ones who tried) could be blamed for the lengthy years of poor to downright awful rosters.

It is hard to say how much they try and fail vs refuse to try, but at least this core has had swings at the cup. Many previous iterations didn't even have a likelihood of a swing at the playoffs.
I'll take having my hopes crushed in the playoffs over being surprised the team simply made the playoffs every day.

How long can we depend on Nichushkin for? I wouldn't bet my last 10 bucks on him coming back and being reliable. Dudes a headcase.

And will Landy even come back? What will he provide when he does come back?

Those are two HUGE question marks man.

Rantanen AND Byram for Petterson? Don't we want to improve our team? What else is Vancouver throwing in?

Rantanen is old now? He's 27 and Petterson is 25.
I propose moving away from Rants + Byram for EP40 to Rants + Ritchie

Wow. Okay. Some people are more competitive and simply want to win when there's a chance.

Anyway , If your team isn't doing 100% to win, then there's something fundamentally wrong with the team/organisation. Look at Leafs. Do you enjoy eternal suffering but being competitive? Become a Leafs fan.

Nothing worse than watching potential thrown away, by a team or a player.

Truth.

We are seeing huge potential wasted. This team could be as good as those teams like Chicago, Tampa back in the day. If built correctly. (Yet of course, they had deeper teams with better prospect pools).

cool
I don't have to enjoy eternal suffering because my team has averaged 1 cup per decade. Compared to many of the fans of other teams I interact with, I feel fortunate more often than not.

Or perhaps there is a middle somewhere where frustration doesn't turn into rage posting about the future of someone who you have no idea what they are and are not doing 75% of the time

I’m with ya. I’m also a MN Vikings fan and I’d like just one. My only frustration is the old core should have won at least 1 more and this core should too. With that said, I’m grateful we got 1 with this core. It’s hard to do and plenty of great teams never won.

I don't watch the Avs or hockey in general to only see the team win the Cup. I watched nearly every game in the 48 point season, I watched nearly every game in the Cup season. My fandom is not tied to Cup or bust. I'll likely watch the Avs for nearly every game on the next rebuild.

Even with that, during a Cup window, a team needs to be pushing as hard as possible to win. The windows start sooner that teams think, are shorter than teams think, and winning a Cup is hard even with an ideal setup... so you want as many chances as possible. I'm very happy this core won a Cup and failing to win another Cup isn't going to make or break anything with my fandom. I just hope the front office realizes they only have a few (maybe as little at 1 or 2) more shots to win a Cup with this core and does what they can to put the team in the best position to succeed. If they try and it just doesn't work... that isn't a big deal to me. If they don't try and punt like last season, that is a big deal to me.
