Well if it was for him it worked...

Sammy Girard has quietly retaken the #3 slot for us. Considering he isn't allowed to play with any players capable of actually putting the puck in the net, I don't really knock his offense like many around here.

At the end of the day, had we trade Duchene for Girard straight up, we probably could have still consider ourselves winners of the trade. The fact that we can dangle Kamenev at the deadline this year as a potential UFA is just icing on the cake.

Strong game from G. I sense that the Avs are hesitant to trade Byram and that they’d sooner move off G than him. He has a higher cap hit this year and next aswell as a 9 team no-trade list that kicks in this summer. If there was a time to move Girard now would be it.

You deal with Byram’s next contract in two summers from now and if he’s earned a significant raise that probably indicates they made the right choice.

G was heroic on the PK out working Miller in the corner and sending the puck down the ice after being dog tired.
All of the damn models crucify him because we don't have a player outside of the top unit capable of scoring a goal. He get's punished continuously in stats and by posters here but he has no support. He's playing with the 3rd and 4th line guys. He doesn't get to feed a pass to Nate, Nuke or Mikko. He's basically excluded from participating with offensive players.

Does Byram also get this pass? He plays with a worse partner in JJ, while playing his offside and has way less NHL experience.

Imo both G and Byram are suffering from not having a second line that can drive offense.

Have you heard me blasting Byram?

Don't confuse me with "the voice" or your impression of the board. I'm my own dude. Yes Byram does get a pass for lack of production based on playing with Wagner, Olofsson, Cogliano, Kiviranta, and JMFJ instead of MacKinnon, Rantanen, your choice of Nuke/Lehky, or Makar/Toews.

He's obviously being held back offensively. That is why some have suggested he might not be happy here. However, if the Avs could actually get a second line worth a even just half a shit, there would be enough offense there for a #3 to feel important. The fact is MacFarland's inability to make a second line may very well cost him his defense. They alpha dogs that can run and play don't want to play with Kivi for the rest of their careers. No disrespect intended, I like Kivi, he's a good player, but I don't blame Byram/Girard one bit for being pissed that nobody they play with can finish a god-damned play.

What Bo does not get a pass for is his own bone-headed defensive reads that leave the team f***ed. He's got to clean that up as it is an ongoing issue. Girard has done a better job of this in my opinion.

Pretty much agree with all of this including Bo needing to clean up his mistakes but I think that’ll come with experience. Where I disagreed was the part that Girard gets punished by the posters here because I believe that crown belongs to Bo but that’s honestly irrelevant. Let’s hope we get a second line worth a damn so both can flourish!

I will probably always go back and forth on who I think our #3 is between Bo and Sam until one of them is moved. Seems like if you want a goal, you go with Bo but if you want safer play you go with G. But as Bo ages, matures and grows he'll become safer as well... or find himself on the short end of the bench. This is a big year for Bo; I feel like Sammy is who he is while Bo still has a short runway for improvement.

Didn't realize the Avs were so bad on the road.

Home, 1st in win%, 1st in scoring, 8th in goals against, 4th on the PP, 4th on the PK
Away, t-19th in win%, 15th in scoring, 26th in goals against, 17th on PP, 14th on PK

It's almost as if they matchup vs Mack line on the road with last change, and Avs depth can't do squat.
Exactly what it is and why Bednar is running them into the ground to get home ice for the playoffs

Didn't they set the record for consecutive road wins earlier this year?

BUF's AGM has to be scouting Byram on the right side. That is three games in a row now I think. If it is the case I really hope it is for Mitts and not Cozen. I'm really not a fan of Cozen's hockey IQ.
