When it was tried it was as the #1C in Montreal which means better coverage against him and much more pressure on him playing in Montreal. It has not been tried as 2C and especially behind Mack. I think it is worth trying....again assuming he is OK with it. If he is not then you forget about it. Iy costs nothing trying it and if it works you solve your biggest hole A W is much easier and cheaper to find at the TDL. The Avs can't keep him as a W because they need to fill the 2C with that money. As a C though they could keep him as it would fix the 2C. He could most likely be kept for pretty cheap (4-5M) compare to other options like Mitts. It also gives time to Ritchie to get ready and take over at 2C.
Drouin at 2C away from MacK is not a 4-5M player

I mean I don’t think Drouin failed at C because he was the 1C. The dude isn’t a C, he would’ve failed at 1, 2, or 3C. He could do it in junior but his talent gap was massive there, but that isn’t the case in the NHL.
I disagree. I think it is worth a try. You probably won't like some of my posts in the next couple of weeks then...sorry in advance. That's assuming you like some of them and I might be completely wrong about that.:cool::thumbu:

Then who is going to fish out pucks for MacK? Rants??
Mack is playing with Mikko and Drouin now but in that case it could be the new W we get in the trade or Landy if he is ready or Landy on the 2nd line and one of Lehky or Nuke goes up.

I disagree. I think that line-up can win the Cup, with the current group of Dmen. But I think I could put 8 Rantanen on the wings with that center group and you would still say its not a Cup winning line-up...

Drouin has been good, but I don’t think he’d be worth resigning for any more than 3.5-4m. Most nights he’s invisible and if he wasn’t glued to MacKinnon and playing top PP, we wouldn’t be having this discussion at all.

Since goalie was mentioned, we all dunk on this teams inability to find a 2C, but god damn, how is it that they haven't drafted and developed a single starting goaltender since Budaj. He wasn't even a full number one. Truely mind boggling.

I wouldn't re-sign Drouin for over 3M x 3. Good luck having this kind of success elsewhere. To me his NHL future is pretty much Colorado or bust, so he should come in at a friendly number.

On another note, I'm surprised (at myself as well) that Granlund's name hasn't come up more. SJ is also a place that would probably be willing to take on Johansen as well, so in effect you can go from Johansen to Granlund for 1M/more per season. I'd assume at least a 1st would have to be included.

He's not perfect but he's kind of a Stastny-like player that would probably look good between the 2 towers of Nuke and Rants. Maybe another Finnish brethren would get Rants head on straight.

SJ has a few other pieces that we could benefit from too, like Sturm for example.

I always go back to the Steve Downie trade.

If he had not wanted that crazy bastard and just took the package Detroit gave Tampa for Kyle Quincey, we would have ended up with the draft pick that was used on Vasi.
