There are no trades that are going to guarantee wins over those teams.

Obviously any trades made give us a better chance than we currently have.

But guaranteed? Not realistic.
Are you sure about that? Every trade works out and makes a team better?

Obviously not.

At the same time it’s hard to envision a scenario where you add a good player to your roster and get worse, but I’m sure it’s happened.

I’m not sure why you’re asking the question in the first place. You obviously know there are no guarantees.

We could trade our 7th for McDavid and there’s still no GUARANTEE that we beat those teams in the playoffs.

Just to keep things in perspective. Yes of course there are no guarantees but people talking about going all in with mediocre players who at best modestly improve a position need to remember this too.

Of course, the pros and cons need to always be weighed.
There are so many considerations in trades that it becomes very difficult to attempt to justify any position.

Between the window ideology, value, business aspect, cap, assets…

Trades like Lehkonen are much easier to swallow and justify. Trades like Manson are more difficult.

It is only going to get more and more difficult as this core ages… you gotta put the team in the best position to win now as this is the best the team will likely be. Can’t waste another season like last year. It quickly becomes 2-3-4 and then suddenly you’re the Kings trying to rebuild with 32 year old core players.

Can the Avs hire a new GM?

I'm waiting for someone to post the one or two realistic trades it would take to GUARANTEE a series win over the Jets and/or Stars. And no imaginary nonsense like Crosby retained for RyJo and a pick.
Something like:

1.
Girard + 1st + OO

For

Mittlestadt/Nelson

2.
Annunen/Provestov + RyJo + Behrens

for

MAF @ 50% + Middleton

3.
Kiviranta + late pick for Sam Carrick/Nico Sturm?

Playoffs:

Lehkonen - Mack - Mikko
Drouin - Nelson - Nuke
Landeksog (Wood)- Colton - LOC
Wood (Cogs) - Carrick- Parise
Cogs (Landeksog), Olofsson, Kovalenko

Toews - Makar
Byram - Manson
Middleton - Malinski
JMFJ - C. Jones

Georgiev
Fleury

We don't even have a reactive one lol. Guy works 2 days a year
Seriously I kind of wonder what a normal day of work is for CMac.

I envision him rolling in around 9:30-10am, grabbing a cup of coffee checking his emails and phone for any messages. Probably competes that by like 11am at the latest. Then probably contemplates either making a few calls to his scouts or other GMs just to shoot the shit because we damn well know he isn't talking hockey. Probably concludes this around noon.

Then he takes lunch and probably calls it day so he can go golfing or generic f***ing around. Then if there is a game he shows his face, so he can shoot the shit with the scouts/GMs about random non hockey shit. If no game it's rince repeat onto the next day.

Had a boss once that would disappear for 3 months every winter because he was snowmobiling. Legit just never came in, wonder if that's what it's like for CMac

It's a good thing that the deadline is upcoming but we're already here down and out and depressed just waiting for the hopelessness to continue. I would rather be pleasantly surprised if something did happen.

Counting on help last year and getting nothing was so sad.

Plus we won't get hurt again at the yearly "Avs going for a big fish" message comes through since we know better

Dude has no heart, or the will to win. Plus he doesn't "do" defense.
Oh please.

McJesus has 1.53 PPG in the playoffs + 1.51 in the regular season. There is only so much one player can accomplish in a team sport. Even Gretzky and Lemieux only lifted cups when they were on ridiculously stacked teams.
